You don't have to say you love me
You don't have to say nothing
You don't have to say you're mine
The night was buzzing with energy, a quiet hum of chatter and laughter filling the air at the bookstore's signing event. Taesan stood at the back, holding a copy of Eternal Notes, its weight pressing into his hands. He had read it cover to cover in a single sitting, captivated by the story and, more than that, by the realization that the book wasn't just a piece of fiction—it was about him. The character, the depth of his emotions, the way he felt invisible yet essential. Taesan couldn't ignore it anymore. Leehan had written about him.
Taesan wasn't sure what to do with that feeling, but he knew one thing—he wanted to meet Leehan. Not just as a fan, but as someone who was now part of the story.
When his turn came, he walked up to the table where Leehan sat, his heart pounding in his chest. Leehan looked up, his eyes warm, a genuine smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Taesan," Leehan said, the recognition in his voice making Taesan's heart skip a beat. "It's good to see you again."
"Yeah," Taesan replied, his voice slightly hushed. He held up the book, the cover now familiar, yet still holding such weight. "I... I really loved it. I'm honored, honestly. It felt like you wrote about someone I've known my whole life."
Leehan's smile softened. "I'm glad you think so. The story means a lot to me."
"I think... it means more than you know," Taesan said quietly, but his words were heavy with something unspoken.
The two locked eyes for a moment, and Taesan felt as if the world around them faded away, leaving just the quiet hum of the night and the connection between them.
That night, Taesan performed at a nearby lounge, a small, intimate venue where the lights were dim, and the air was thick with anticipation. He hadn't planned on singing "Adore You", but it felt right. The song echoed in his mind, like it had been written for this moment. For him, for Leehan.
The crowd grew silent as Taesan took the stage, his fingers resting on the mic. The lights focused on him, but his gaze lingered on one person in the crowd—Leehan. There, sitting at a corner table, his eyes were on Taesan, just like the first time they had met.
The first notes of the song filled the air, and Taesan let the music carry him. He sang, his voice low and raw, the lyrics cutting through the stillness of the room.
"Walk in your rainbow paradise
Strawberry lipstick state of mind
I get so lost inside your eyes
Would you believe it ?"
His voice trembled on the word "honey," a slight quiver as he locked eyes with Leehan, feeling every syllable in his chest. He wasn't just singing the words. He was confessing something, something he had kept hidden for too long. The longing, the desire, the need to be seen by Leehan in the same way he had seen him through the pages of Eternal Notes.
"Oh, honey
I'd walk through fire for you
Just let me adore you
Like it's the only thing I'll ever do"
As the song continued, Taesan's heart raced. The vulnerability in his voice felt like a confession, an admission that he didn't need to say aloud. Leehan was the person who had seen him—really seen him—and now he was singing for him, hoping that somehow, these words would reach him in the same way.
When the final notes faded away, there was a stillness in the room. Taesan lowered the mic, his heart pounding in his chest. He looked toward the back of the room, where Leehan was sitting. Their eyes met again, and for a moment, everything else disappeared. The connection was undeniable.
After the performance, Taesan stepped down from the stage, his legs feeling a little shaky as he made his way toward Leehan. There was a nervous flutter in his chest, but he pushed it aside. He didn't need to be nervous. Not now.
Leehan was already standing, waiting for him, and as Taesan reached him, Leehan's eyes softened, a quiet smile tugging at his lips. "That was beautiful, Taesan," he said, his voice low but warm.
"Thanks," Taesan replied, his voice barely a whisper. "It's... for you."
Leehan's gaze deepened, as if he understood exactly what Taesan meant. "I know," he said quietly. There was a pause, and then, as if caught in the moment, Leehan leaned in slightly. "You know, I think I could adore you, too."
The words hung in the air, and Taesan felt his heart stop for a second, before it began to race again. There was no need for more explanations. The look in Leehan's eyes said everything.
The following week, Leehan sat in an interview, the book's success still fresh, and the interviewer had one question on their mind. "So, your novel Eternal Notes—it's been praised for its depth and emotional resonance. Can you tell us who the character is based on? The one who seems to capture all of the vulnerability, the quiet strength?"
Leehan's heart skipped a beat. He had been waiting for this question, but he wasn't sure what to say. He could lie, he could dance around it, but the truth was in his heart, and he couldn't ignore it.
"It's about someone real," Leehan said softly, his eyes distant as he thought back to that night—the night Taesan had sung for him. "It's about someone who might not always be the loudest, but when you see them, when you truly see them, they change everything. They're the person who makes you realize what really matters in life."
The interviewer nodded, waiting for more, but Leehan remained silent for a moment, the weight of his words settling in the room.
As the interview continued, Leehan couldn't help but think about the truth he had just shared. Taesan, the person who had unknowingly inspired him, was the same person who had filled his heart with a kind of love he didn't know how to describe. The person who made him want to adore him, to be there for him.
Later that evening, Taesan sent Leehan a message, a simple text that made Leehan's heart flutter:
"I think I could adore you too."
It wasn't just a line anymore. It was the beginning of something real. Something that neither of them could run away from.
And from that night on, they both knew: everything had changed.
