Habits I'm trying to kick, can't get over it
Lovers I hate to admit are the ghost of it
I don't know why I try anymore
Wasting the days to forget that I'm losing it
Stuck in my ways and I hate that I'm used to it
I don't know why I try anymore

Taesan had always been the constant in Leehan's life—steady, unwavering, like the oxygen he couldn't live without. But lately, their love had become a cycle of push and pull, a game of on-again, off-again that neither of them knew how to break.

Tonight was no different.

Rain pattered against the window of Taesan's apartment, the dim city lights casting long shadows across the walls. Leehan stood by the door, arms crossed, eyes filled with the same conflict that had been plaguing them for months.

"You always do this," Leehan muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "You let me in just enough to make me stay, then push me away before I can get too close."

Taesan exhaled sharply, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "And you always come back."

Leehan flinched. It wasn't untrue, but it still stung. He wished he had the strength to walk away, but Taesan was the kind of addiction he couldn't quit.

"I don't know why I try anymore," Leehan admitted, dropping his gaze to the floor.

Taesan stepped closer, tilting Leehan's chin up with gentle fingers. "Because you love me." His voice was softer now, a contrast to the sharp edges of their usual fights.

Leehan swallowed. "And you love me too. But sometimes it doesn't feel like enough."

A shadow of regret flickered across Taesan's face. He cupped Leehan's cheek, thumb brushing away the remnants of a tear. "It is enough. I just—I don't know how to love you the way you deserve."

Leehan leaned into the touch, closing his eyes for a moment. "Then show me," he whispered. "Stop running. Stop shutting me out."

Taesan hesitated, then nodded. "Okay."

Leehan opened his eyes, searching for the lie in Taesan's expression—but for the first time, he didn't find one. Just raw honesty, the same vulnerability he had been aching to see for so long.

Taesan took a deep breath, then kissed him.

It wasn't rushed, or desperate like all the other times they had fallen back into each other's arms. It was soft, lingering, a promise woven between the press of their lips. A promise that this time, maybe, things would be different.

As they pulled away, Leehan smiled faintly. "On again?"

Taesan let out a breathy laugh, resting his forehead against Leehan's. "On again."

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting golden stripes across the bed where they lay tangled together. Taesan stirred first, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on Leehan's bare shoulder.

"You're staring," Leehan mumbled, voice thick with sleep.

Taesan smirked. "I like looking at you."

Leehan rolled onto his side, propping himself up on an elbow. "Do you?"

Taesan brushed a strand of hair from Leehan's forehead. "Yeah. And I like waking up next to you."

Leehan sighed, playing with the edge of the blanket. "Then don't let this be another false start."

Taesan's expression softened. "I won't."

Leehan searched his face, then finally, he nodded. "Okay."

Taesan smiled, pulling him close again. "On again."

Over the next few weeks, they worked on it, brick by brick. It wasn't easy. Love wasn't just promises whispered in the dark—it was effort, compromise, learning each other all over again.

Taesan started showing up in ways he never had before. He texted first, asked Leehan about his day without waiting to be prompted. He made an effort to include Leehan in his plans, rather than expecting him to just follow. Small things, but to Leehan, they meant everything.

And Leehan, for his part, tried to trust again. He stopped waiting for Taesan to disappear. He let himself believe in them, in the idea that maybe this time, Taesan meant what he said.

One evening, as they walked along the Han River, Taesan reached for Leehan's hand without hesitation. "I don't want to be on-again, off-again anymore," he admitted. "I just want us. Always."

Leehan squeezed his hand, smiling softly. "Then let's build this right."

Taesan met his gaze, nodding. "Brick by brick."
