I got a heart and I got a soul
Believe me, I will use them both
We made a start, be it a false one, I know
Baby, I don't want to feel alone
carousel spun lazily in the distance, its lights painting the dark sky with faint splashes of gold and blue. Taesan and Leehan lingered near the edge of the fairground, the echo of children's laughter and distant music fading as they stood closer, their silence charged with unspoken words.
Taesan's mind was a whirlwind, his chest heavy with the weight of emotions he'd tried for years to suppress. These damn feelings. They'd always been there, lurking at the edges of every thought, every decision. And now, under the soft glow of the carousel lights, they were louder than ever.
Leehan tilted his head, his gaze steady on Taesan's face. "You've been quiet," he said softly.
Taesan chuckled dryly, running a hand through his hair. "Quiet doesn't even begin to cover it. My head's a mess."
"What's going on in there?" Leehan asked, taking a cautious step closer.
Taesan hesitated, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. "You," he admitted finally. "It's always you. For years, it's been you. But I didn't know how to deal with it. I didn't know how to deal with..." He paused, his voice dropping to a whisper. "These damn feelings."
Leehan's breath caught, but he didn't interrupt. He let Taesan speak, the weight of his words sinking deep into the stillness around them.
"I thought I could bury them," Taesan continued, his voice trembling. "Convince myself it was just a phase, something I'd grow out of. But every time I saw you, it was like... like someone lit a fire inside me. And no matter what I did, I couldn't put it out."
Leehan's eyes softened, and he reached out, hesitantly brushing his fingers against Taesan's hand. "I get it," he murmured. "You think I don't, but I do. Because I've felt it too."
Taesan's head snapped up, his eyes searching Leehan's. "You have?"
Leehan nodded, his smile tinged with sadness. "I just didn't know what to do with it. It scared me, Taesan. Loving you scared me. But it scared me more to think about what life would be like without you in it."
The words hit Taesan like a punch to the gut. For so long, he'd been carrying his feelings in silence, convinced they were unrequited. But now, hearing Leehan admit his own struggles, his own fear, something inside him cracked open.
"Leehan..." Taesan's voice broke, and he took a step closer, his hands trembling as they cupped Leehan's face. "You don't have to be scared anymore. I don't want either of us to be scared anymore."
Leehan leaned into his touch, his eyes glistening. "Then let's stop running," he whispered. "Let's stop pretending we don't feel this."
The sound of the carousel drifted in the background as Taesan pressed his forehead against Leehan's. The lyrics of a song from years ago echoed in his mind: "Kiss me where I lay down, my hands pressed to your cheeks, a long way from the playground."
"I've loved you since we were eighteen," Taesan confessed, his voice steady despite the storm of emotions swirling in his chest. "Maybe even before that. And I think I'll love you until we're eighty and beyond."
Leehan laughed softly, tears slipping down his cheeks. "You always did have a way with words."
Taesan smiled, his thumb brushing away the tears. "Only when it comes to you."
The carousel lights reflected in their eyes as Taesan leaned in, capturing Leehan's lips in a kiss that spoke of years of longing, fear, and love finally realized.
And in that moment, as the world faded away, the fire inside Taesan burned brighter than ever—not with pain, but with the warmth of finally having what he'd always wanted.
Leehan pulled back slightly, his voice soft but firm. "Taesan, these feelings... they're not just yours. They're mine too. And they're not going anywhere."
Taesan laughed, his heart lighter than it had been in years. "Good. Because neither am I."
As they stood there, under the glow of the fairground lights, the weight of the past melted away. And for the first time in years, Taesan felt like he was exactly where he was meant to be—by Leehan's side. Forever.
