Well, baby, I surrender
To the strawberry ice cream
Never ever end of all this love
Well, I didn't mean to do it
But there's no escaping your love, oh
The morning sun spilled over the sleepy town like honey, melting the frost that clung to the windowpanes. Leehan stood behind the counter of the quaint little café he worked at, wiping down mugs and humming softly to himself. The place was quiet, save for the occasional hiss of the espresso machine and the faint chatter of a couple seated by the window. It was a typical day—or so he thought.
The bell above the door jingled, and in walked Taesan, his hair slightly disheveled and a lazy grin playing on his lips. He was a regular but not in the usual sense. Taesan never ordered the same drink twice, never sat in the same spot, and always had a new story to share. He was unpredictable, and it was maddeningly charming.
Leehan glanced up from his task, his heart doing that stupid little flutter it always did when Taesan entered. "Morning," he greeted, trying to sound nonchalant. "What'll it be today?"
Taesan leaned against the counter, close enough for Leehan to catch a whiff of his cologne—something woodsy and warm. "Surprise me," he said with a wink.
Leehan rolled his eyes but couldn't fight the smile tugging at his lips. He turned to the espresso machine, his hands moving automatically as he crafted something special. He'd never admit it out loud, but he always put extra effort into Taesan's orders.
When the drink was ready, he slid it across the counter. "One strawberry latte, on the house."
Taesan's eyebrows shot up. "On the house? Are you feeling okay, Leehan?"
Leehan shrugged, feigning indifference. "Don't get used to it."
Taesan took a sip, his eyes lighting up. "This is amazing. You've outdone yourself, as usual."
Leehan felt a blush creep up his neck. "It's just a drink."
"No, it's not. It's art," Taesan said, his tone sincere. "You're an artist, Leehan."
Leehan ducked his head, pretending to busy himself with the register. "Yeah, well, enjoy it while it lasts."
The day went on, and the café grew busier, but Leehan couldn't stop thinking about Taesan. There was something about him—the way he seemed to effortlessly brighten the room, the way he made Leehan feel seen. It was infuriating and intoxicating all at once.
By the time his shift ended, the sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Leehan stepped out of the café, stretching and breathing in the crisp evening air. To his surprise, Taesan was leaning against the lamppost outside, waiting.
"What are you doing here?" Leehan asked, his voice laced with curiosity.
Taesan grinned. "Thought I'd walk you home. Is that okay?"
Leehan hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Sure."
They walked in companionable silence, the quiet punctuated by the crunch of their footsteps on the gravel path. The air between them was charged, but neither of them acknowledged it. Finally, Taesan broke the silence.
"Do you ever think about love?" he asked, his voice soft.
Leehan glanced at him, caught off guard by the question. "What do you mean?"
"I mean... do you ever think about what it's like to fall in love? To feel like the world is spinning faster and slower at the same time?"
Leehan's heart skipped a beat. "I guess I've thought about it," he admitted. "Why?"
Taesan stopped walking and turned to face him, his expression uncharacteristically serious. "Because I think I'm falling for you, Leehan."
The words hung in the air, their weight pressing down on Leehan's chest. He opened his mouth to respond but found himself at a loss for words. Taesan took a step closer, his gaze unwavering.
"I flirt with you every day," Taesan began, his tone dropping to a low, intimate register. "Not because it's fun—although it is—but because it's the only way I know how to tell you how much you mean to me. You're the first person I think about when I wake up, and the last before I go to sleep. You've taken over my thoughts, Leehan. And I don't want them back."
Leehan's breath hitched, his chest tight with emotion. He'd dreamed of moments like this but never imagined they'd happen in real life. "Taesan, I... I've always wondered if someone could ever make me feel like the world was brighter just by existing. You do that. Every single day."
Taesan's expression softened, his eyes shimmering with an emotion Leehan couldn't quite name. "You have no idea how much that means to me."
Before Leehan could reply, Taesan closed the distance between them, his hands cupping Leehan's face as he kissed him. It wasn't like the teasing, fleeting kisses he'd imagined. This was different. It was deep and tender, filled with all the unspoken words and emotions that had been building between them for so long.
When they finally pulled apart, Leehan's cheeks were wet with tears he hadn't realized he'd shed. "Taesan," he murmured, his voice trembling. "You're my favorite mistake."
Taesan chuckled softly, brushing his thumb across Leehan's cheek. "If this is a mistake, I don't ever want to be right."
As they stood there under the stars, the world seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them. And for the first time, Leehan felt like he was exactly where he was meant to be.
