Holy Ghost, you told me I'm
The love of your lifeYou said I'm the love of your life
About a million times
The dim light of the room reflected off the framed memories scattered across the walls. Leehan sat on the edge of the bed, the faint scent of aged paper and nostalgia in the air as he flipped through an old photo album. Taesan leaned against the doorway, his silhouette sharp against the backdrop of a restless moon.
"Who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames?" Leehan's voice was soft, almost a whisper, as he traced the edge of a photograph. In it, they were smiling, their younger selves carefree and untouched by the jagged edges of life.
"If we know the steps anyway," Taesan replied, stepping closer, his hands buried deep in his pockets. "We embroidered the memories, didn't we? Every stitch, every moment, even the ones we thought would break us."
Leehan's lips curved into a faint smile, though it didn't reach his eyes. "We were just kids, babe. I said I didn't mind... that it would take time. But I thought I was better safe than starry-eyed."
Taesan crouched down in front of him, resting a hand on Leehan's knee. His eyes, dark and unwavering, searched for something in the other's expression. "And now?" he asked. "Do you still think it's safer to keep your heart locked away?"
Leehan closed the album, his hands trembling slightly. "I felt a glow like this," he said, his voice catching. "Never before and never since. But..."
"But what?" Taesan's tone was gentle, coaxing.
"If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary," Leehan murmured, his gaze distant. "But what we thought was for all time... was momentary. And I can't shake the feeling that maybe it should've stayed buried."
Taesan exhaled, his shoulders sagging slightly. "Still alive, killing time at the cemetery, huh?" he said with a wry smile. "Never quite buried."
Leehan's laugh was hollow, but it softened as Taesan reached up, brushing his knuckles against Leehan's cheek. "You cinephile in black and white," Leehan said, shaking his head.
"You said I was the love of your life," Taesan countered, his tone firm but tinged with vulnerability. "A million times, you said it."
Leehan's chest tightened, memories of whispered promises and stolen moments flooding his mind. "You talked me under the table, Taesan. Talking rings and talking cradles. And I..." He swallowed hard. "I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all."
Taesan stood, pulling Leehan up with him. Their faces were inches apart, the air between them heavy with unspoken words. "Dancing phantoms on the terrace," Taesan said softly, his breath ghosting against Leehan's lips. "Are they second-hand embarrassed that we can't let this go?"
Leehan's eyes glistened with unshed tears. "Something counterfeit is dead, Taesan. It was legendary... and unnecessary. Maybe we should let it stay buried."
For a moment, neither of them moved. Then Taesan's hand found Leehan's, his grip firm and grounding. "You really believe that?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Leehan hesitated, his heart waging a war with his mind. Finally, he shook his head, a tear slipping free. "No," he admitted. "But I'm scared."
Taesan's lips curled into a small, reassuring smile. "Me too," he said. "But if we're going to waltz back into those flames, let's do it together. No lies. No pretending. Just us."
Leehan's breath hitched as Taesan leaned in, capturing his lips in a kiss that was both fierce and tender. It was a kiss that spoke of pain and healing, of endings and beginnings. When they finally pulled apart, Leehan rested his forehead against Taesan's, their breaths mingling.
"You're the loss of my life," Leehan whispered, "but maybe you're also the love of it."
Taesan's grip on him tightened, as if anchoring them both. "Then let's make this legendary again."
And in that moment, amidst the ghosts of their past and the promises of their future, they chose to begin anew.
The weeks that followed were a delicate dance of rebuilding. Every interaction felt like threading a needle, each word and gesture an attempt to mend the frayed fabric of their connection. They spent hours revisiting places that once held significance—a secluded park bench where they'd shared their first kiss, a tiny café where they'd dreamt of their future, and even the beach where they'd had their worst fight.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, they found themselves standing on the terrace of their old apartment. The view was just as breathtaking as they remembered, the city lights beginning to twinkle like scattered stars.
"This was always my favorite spot," Leehan confessed, leaning against the railing. "I used to come here whenever things got overwhelming. It made me feel... grounded."
Taesan stepped beside him, his arm brushing against Leehan's. "I remember. You'd disappear, and I'd always know where to find you."
Leehan chuckled softly. "You'd bring me coffee, even though I always told you I preferred tea."
"And you'd drink it anyway," Taesan teased, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
Leehan turned to face him, the fading sunlight casting a warm glow on his features. "You were persistent. Always have been."
"Some things are worth the effort," Taesan replied, his voice low and sincere. He reached out, tucking a stray strand of hair behind Leehan's ear. "You're worth the effort."
Leehan's heart swelled at the words, the sincerity in Taesan's eyes leaving no room for doubt. He closed the distance between them, wrapping his arms around Taesan's waist. "I don't know what the future holds," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But I know I want you in it."
Taesan rested his chin on Leehan's shoulder, holding him close. "Then let's write our own story," he said softly. "One that's truly legendary."
And as the city came alive beneath them, they stood together, ready to face whatever came their way.
