No matter where we are
You still have my heart
'Cause I locked it
And I promise
You're the locksmith
It was a cold winter night when Leehan first heard the song. The melody hummed through his earphones, wrapping around his heart like a bittersweet memory. The lyrics felt too personal, too familiar, as if they had been ripped straight from the pages of his own story with Taesan.
He let out a deep sigh, staring out of the café window as snowflakes drifted down from the night sky. It had been years—years since he last saw him, years since they last spoke. And yet, his heart still beat to the rhythm of Taesan's name.
A part of him wished he had moved on, like everyone expected him to. But another part—one he tried to suppress—still held on. Still wondered if Taesan ever thought about him too.
The song played on repeat, its words digging into him like a quiet confession.
If in ten years' time, I'm still on your mind, would you call and say you want this?
Leehan clenched his fingers around the warm cup of coffee in his hands, exhaling shakily. He didn't need ten years to know the answer. Taesan had always been the one—his only exception, the one person he could never replace. And maybe, just maybe, he was still locked in Taesan's heart too.
Five Years Ago
"You and me? We're forever, Leehan," Taesan had whispered against his lips, his breath warm despite the winter chill around them. "I promise."
Leehan had smiled, tracing his fingers over Taesan's cheek. "You promise?"
Taesan had only grinned, pulling Leehan into his arms. "I locked my heart, and you're the only one who has the key."
And Leehan had believed him.
But forever was a fragile thing, easily shattered by distance, ambition, and time. Taesan left for another city, chasing a career that demanded everything from him. Leehan stayed behind, finishing his studies, paralyzed by the fear of uprooting his life.
They tried. God, they tried.
But love, no matter how strong, struggled against silence. The late-night calls turned into missed messages. The longing turned into aching solitude. And one day, Taesan simply stopped calling.
The moment Leehan realized it was over, he had been staring at his phone for hours, waiting for a message that would never come.
Present Day
Leehan didn't expect to see him again. Not here. Not tonight.
But fate had a cruel sense of humor.
The café door chimed, and there he was—Han Taesan, looking like a dream pulled straight out of Leehan's memories. The years had been kind to him. His sharp features were even more refined, his presence as electrifying as ever. But his eyes—his eyes still held the same warmth, the same unspoken words Leehan had once fallen for.
Taesan's gaze landed on him, and for a moment, time stopped.
Leehan's breath caught in his throat.
Taesan's lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but then hesitated. Instead, he took a step forward, his expression unreadable. "Leehan."
It was just his name, but it held a thousand memories. A thousand regrets. A thousand unspoken feelings that had never truly faded.
Leehan swallowed hard. "Taesan."
They stood there, the weight of the past pressing down on them. The café buzzed around them—people chatting, cups clinking—but for them, the world had narrowed to just the two of them.
Taesan exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "I... didn't think I'd see you here."
Leehan forced a small smile. "Neither did I."
A pause. Then Taesan spoke again, his voice softer this time. "Can we talk?"
Leehan hesitated. He should say no. He should walk away.
But he didn't.
They sat across from each other, the tension thick between them. The past hung heavy in the air, and neither of them knew how to break it.
"How have you been?" Taesan asked, his fingers nervously tracing the rim of his coffee cup.
Leehan shrugged, trying to keep his voice even. "I've been... okay. You?"
Taesan let out a quiet chuckle. "I've been alright. But you showed me better."
The words made Leehan freeze. His heart stuttered.
Taesan sighed, leaning forward. "I know we changed, Leehan. I know time pulled us apart. But nothing—nothing—feels different."
Leehan closed his eyes for a second, the lyrics of the song echoing in his mind.
You were all that I wanted. You know that you still are.
"Taesan..." he whispered, his voice almost breaking.
Taesan reached across the table, his fingers brushing against Leehan's. "If in ten years' time, I'm still on your mind... would you call?"
Leehan inhaled sharply, his chest tightening. He wanted to be strong. He wanted to say no. But he had never been able to lie to Taesan.
"I never stopped thinking about you," Leehan admitted. "Not once."
Taesan smiled—soft, relieved, filled with something unspoken. "Then don't let me go this time."
Leehan felt his defenses crumble. Maybe they had been too young back then. Maybe their timing had been all wrong. But sitting here, with Taesan's touch sending warmth up his arm, he realized something.
Some loves never truly fade. Some hearts remain locked forever.
And Taesan?
He was the locksmith.
