Fog of War

I let out a hiss as Abby dabbed a damp cloth around my shoulder. She whispered a quick apology, setting the cloth aside and grabbing more gauze.

During the time I was knocked out, I was taken back to the Ark crash site, now being called 'Camp Jaha.' Abby was quick to get to work and managed to carefully get the bullet out and stop the bleeding. The pain from the surgey itself kept me in and out of consciousness, letting out a cry a few times when I felt her tweezers digging into the wound. I had been bedridden for the past two days for recovery.

It was strange being off my feet for so long. We had been constantly on the move, constantly strategizing on how to live just a little longer. I had forgotten what it was like to rest, especially laying on a gurney that resembled the most to a bed than what I've had to sleep on. I wanted to get up and attempted to many times, but I was met by protests from both Bellamy and Lily.

Through the updates I was given, our people were actually locked away in Mount Weather; the original location we were meant to land at. There were more people other than the Grounders who had stayed in the depot and survived the nuclear war. They captured everyone after the attack at the dropship and had lied to everyone about their true nature. Clarke barely escaped with the Grounder queen, who unfortunately died before help could come. Clarke had been pushing for a rescue mission, but her mother and other higherups had been reluctant to agree to it.

The higherups focused on what to do with Murphy and Finn. I heard they were pardoned for their crimes, and I was lucky not to be considered for a sentencing. Everyone was quick to vouch that I would never do what that. . . lunatic pushed for.

I hadn't seen Finn since he shot me. I wasn't sure if it was his guilt keeping him away or that he truly didn't care. Regardless of the reason, I didn't want to see him anyways. The look in his eyes, his eyes wide and frantic, told me everything. Finn was no longer the Spacewalker we knew the moment he killed the one-eyed Grounder. He crossed the line. I didn't know if he could ever come back from that.

"Seems like it's healing well. I'll check on it again tomorrow and put fresh wrappings on it," Abby explained, unrolling the gauze up and round my left shoulder.

"Thank you, again, Abby," I said as I watched her work. "Probably would've lost my arm if you weren't here."

The doctor let out a chuckle and added the last piece of tape before stepping away with her used tools. "You're welcome. Just make sure you take it easy. If you move your arm too much, you'll tear open your stitches."

I moved the sleeve of my jacket back on. "I'll do my best. Won't be easy using a gun, but my knife will do just fine.

"Excuse me?" Abby faced me with a stern look on her face. "Do you think we're going to let you guys out there again?"

I took a deep breath, pushing down the instant rise of annoyance. "Our friends are being held captive by wackos. If we don't do something, they might get hurt. Or worse."

"I made it very clear to Clarke and the others. You are not going out there. You are all children and don't make the decisions."

"But how is that-"

"Athena, drop it," she said and finished putting away her equipment. "You're free to go. Remember to be careful with your shoulder."

I bit my bottom lip as she turned her back to me and left the makeshift medbay. Just like her daughter, Abby was as stubborn as they come. No matter what I said, it would've been the same answer. I'd rather leave the convincing to Clarke.

I was met with the dark sky and stars looming over myself and other members of the fallen Ark. They were all shuffling around to different destinations, most towards the area with drinks and steaming food. I managed to catch sight of Clarke, Bellamy, and Finn at a table nearby.
