"We'll leave you to it." Kimberley said as her and Nicola quickly gathered their things and left.

"Katy, I can explain..." Cheryl said, already welling up.

"You're leaving me? I thought we were a team, I thought we were going to get through this." Katy said, not raising her voice as she was clearly too hurt.

"I was trying." She added.

Cheryl shook her head slowly "I know." She whispered.

"I was trying to make it work." Katy explained. "I gave you your space, I gave you your time, I wasn't going to pressure you into anything. Hell - I never even mentioned the wedding again since Mom died." She added.

"I know." Cheryl repeated.

"Then, why?" Katy asked, a lump in her throat forming.

"Katy, you know I love you." Cheryl said.

"But, but you're leaving me." Katy replied.

Katy looked small, for the first time ever - Cheryl felt she had the power. She wasn't the one being hurt, she was the one doing the hurting and it felt awful.

"How do you do it?" Katy asked.

"Do what?" Cheryl replied.

"Manage to twist me around your little finger, make me believe we could possibly work something out?" Katy said.

"I didn't make you believe anything." Cheryl said.

Katy sat down next to Cheryl on the sofa.

Cheryl looked away to avoid Katy seeing the tears forming in her eyes.

"You're going to have to leave tomorrow... you'll have to go back home to America." She whispered.

"I put my house on the market, I don't have a home over there. As far as I was concerned, this was my home. You were my home." Katy replied.

"I'm sure Rihanna will take you." Cheryl said, bluntly.

She turned to face Katy.

"This isn't all my doing." She said.

"Isn't it?" Katy asked.

"No. You drove me to this, you drove me over the edge. You drove me fucking insane. It's a surprise I didn't run to someone else before now!" Cheryl snapped.

"Nearly 2 years down the drain, for what?" Katy asked.

"2 years of hurting, Katy. 2 years of making me feel worthless! 2 years too long." Cheryl replied.

She stood up.

"I'm going to bed." She said.

And like that, she walked upstairs, got into her PJ's, then into bed and lay there. Another sleepless night.

The morning approached, and Cheryl sat up.

She looked to her side, where Katy usually slept. It was untouched.

She pulled her gown on and went downstairs.

Katy was on the phone, still wearing the same clothes from the night before.

"Thank you. I'll be ready." Katy said, putting down the phone.

"I've got somewhere to go, not that I expect you to care." She said.

"Katy, I still care. I can't just switch off my feelings, I've said it already. I still love you, but us together. We don't work." Cheryl explained.
