The next day, Cheryl made breakfast for herself and phoned her mum.

*Phone call with Joan.*

"Mam?" Cheryl said.
"Cheryl! You get home okay then sweetheart?" Joan asked.
"Yes, but I'm coming back." Cheryl replied, her voice breaking.
"What?" Joan asked, confused.
"Katy's pregnant. And, as you can probably work out - the baby's not mine." Cheryl said, trying to make light of the situation.
"Oh, Cheryl." Joan whispered, sympathetically.
"No, I'm okay. I'm going to stay at Kimberley's until I get me house back, I'll be fine." Cheryl said.
"I don't want sympathy." She added.
Cheryl heard a gasp from upstairs.
"Mam, I'll call you later!" She said, quickly putting the phone down.

She ran upstairs and to the bathroom, where Katy was.

"I'm bleeding, Cheryl!" Katy exclaimed.

"Help me!" She continued.

"Oh God." Cheryl muttered, collecting towels.

"We need to get you to the hospital! How far along are you!?" She asked, frantically.

"3 months probably!" Katy replied, panicking.

Cheryl frowned as she helped Katy stand and walked her to the car.

"I'm going to have to drive." Cheryl said, nervously as she bundled Katy into the back seat.

Cheryl got into the drivers seat and started the engine and pulled out of the drive way.

*At the hospital.*

Cheryl was sitting beside Katy's bed, waiting for Shannon to arrive.

A doctor walked towards them.

"Miss Perry?" He asked.

Katy nodded.

"I'm afraid the baby's heart beat is showing irregular signs of serious distress." He said.

Katy frowned.

"Which means?" She provoked.

"Which means, it's unlikely the baby is going to survive another week let alone to full term. We have no choice but to induce your labour, 4 and a half months early. This decision is with yours and your child's best interest. Your blood pressure is too high to continue to carry this baby." He continued.

Katy bit her lip.

"Okay." She whispered.

At that moment, Shannon walked through the door out of breath.

"I'm so sorry, I tried to get here as soon as Cheryl called me." She said.

"She's pregnant and she's got to be induced. She's only 4 and a half months along." Cheryl told her.

Shannon looked astonished.

"Okay." She said, shocked.

"Are you ready?" The doctor asked Katy.

"Yes." She muttered, nervously.

Cheryl and Shannon sat together waiting for her to return.

An hour passed. Then two. Then three.

Eventually four and a half hours later, the doctor came and told Cheryl and Shannon they could come and see Katy.

They walked through the curtain to see Katy lying there, pale and frail. Just as Cheryl had seen Gillian the previous day.

"Katy." Cheryl gasped.

"It's a girl. She's in an incubator in intensive care, she needs help to breathe and her heart is strained." The doctor said.

"A girl." Cheryl whispered to herself, in awe.

They followed the doctor who led them to where the baby was sleeping in her incubator.

"Wow." Shannon whispered.

"I know." Cheryl replied, stroking the baby's hand.

"It's very unlikely she'll survive, she's four and a half months early, she is no where near developed enough for the world yet." The doctor said.

"I'm sorry." He finished.
