*Phone call with Simon.*
"So I saw your tweet!" Simon said, awkwardly.
"Oh, did you? What do you think?" Cheryl replied.
There was a short silence.
"Are you sure this is right for you?" Simon eventually asked.
"Look if you're just calling to lecture me then-" Cheryl began but Simon cut her off.
"No. I'm not, but I don't know if you know what you're letting yourself in for." Simon finished.
"Well I do, and I don't need you to tell me the depth of my decision. I said yes, I love her!" Cheryl said.
"Well, if you're sure." Simon replied.
There was another short silence.
"Lesbian, Cheryl? Really?" Simon added.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Cheryl asked, astonished.
"I know you're missing Ashley but-" Simon began but was cut off by Cheryl.
"I am not fucking missing Ashley, why does everyone assume that. The man lied to me, cheated on me, betrayed me numerous times. Why would I sit around 'missing' him when all he did was make me feel like shit. Now, if you don't mind, I'm not going to just stay on the phone to you and let you dictate my life and decisions. I know what I want, and what I want is to marry Katy. I have nothing left to say to you, Simon." Cheryl said, hanging up and locking her phone, placing it face down on the kitchen desk. She sat on a stool and looked down at her coffee then at the time on her watch.
"Shit!" She whispered as she quickly jumped up and ran to the house phone.
She dialled her mum's number and waited patiently for her to pick up.
*Phone call with Joan, Cheryl's mum.*
"Hi mam, I'm so sorry I'm like an hour late calling, Simon kept us on the phone for god knows how long, you know what he's like!" Cheryl began cheerily but soon quietened down when she heard Joan sniffing.
"Mam?" She asked.
"Cheryl. It's your sister. She's-she's in hospital." Joan murmured.
"What?!" Cheryl asked, confused.
"She had an accident, she's lost the baby and our Poppy was in the car too, she's in intensive care. I didn't want to tell you like this it's just. you're so far away, I didn't know what to do." Joan said, starting to cry.
"Mam, mam. Calm down. I'll get a flight back, I'll be back by tomorrow morning!" Cheryl exclaimed.
"It's not that easy though, is it Cheryl? Where will you stay?" Joan asked.
"Lily's-" Cheryl began but then realised what she had just said. "I'll figure something out, Kimberley will have me." She finished, quickly, biting her lip to stop herself from crying.
"Be careful." Joan whispered. "I love you Cheryl." She added before putting the phone down.
Cheryl placed the house phone back on the latch and sat on the chair in front of the fire.
She stared blankly at the wall until Katy came down stairs yawning.
"Morning babe." Katy said, smiling over to Cheryl.
"I'm going home." Cheryl muttered, not even turning to look at Katy.
"What? You are home!?" She replied, panicking.
"Katy, I don't belong here. Me sister and niece are in hospital in intensive care, our Gary's probably gonna need bailing out to watch mam, I need to go home." Cheryl explained, standing up and walking towards the stairs.
Katy stood staring.
"Wherever you go, I go." She said.
"What if I don't want you to, this time?" Cheryl replied, before returning to walk back up the stairs.
"Cheryl, I'm your fiancé."
Cheryl stopped in her tracks as she heard the word 'fiancé'.
"And they're my family. They need me." She replied.
Katy stood dumbfounded, realising she couldn't say anything further that would change her mind.
