*In the car on the way to Katy's parents' house.*

"I know it was my idea, but I'm suddenly really nervous." Cheryl said, checking her hair in the mirror.

Katy laughed. "It'll be fine." She said, however, she was unsure herself.

They pulled up at Katy's parents' house.

"What if they don't like me? I'm not good enough for you! What if they think you can do so much better! I'm so scared." Cheryl exclaimed, panicking.

"Don't." Katy said, placing her hand on Cheryl's thigh. "You'll be fine."

They got out of the car and Katy took Cheryl's hand. "It's going to be fine, and you look finneee." Katy said, winking.

She knocked on the door.

Katy's mother answered it.

"Hello Katheryn, do come in." She said, smiling awkwardly at Cheryl.

She lead them to the living area.

"Sit down, your father is just making us some tea." She said.

Katy and Cheryl sat beside each other on the sofa.
After a few minutes of substantially awkward silence, Mary broke the silence.
"So has Katy told you yet?" Mary said, turning to look at Cheryl.

Cheryl looked confused.

"N-no?" She asked.

"Mom." Katy said, snapping.

"She's just in a phase. She's as straight as anything. You're just a part of that phase." Mary said.

Katy scowled and shook her head slowly.

"No. No it's not." She said. "I love Cheryl, regardless of her gender or anything that you're bothered about. Why have you never accepted me for who I am." She spat.

"Katheryn. You do not love that. Angela would never do this, then again, you've always been a devil child." Mary snapped.

Just then, Keith, Katy's father, entered the room with a tray of tea.

"What's going on here?" He asked, putting the tray down.

"If Angela is that special to you, why hasn't she visited you for 3 years!" Katy said, raising her voice.

"She'd never betray her faith!" Mary replied, raising hers too.

"I'm in love with a girl, why is that such a problem to you!?" Katy yelled.

Mary slapped Katy around the face.

Katy clutched her cheek, as Cheryl and Keith watched in shock.

"Listen to yourself!" Mary spat. "No daughter of mine betrays their faith in such manner." She continued.

Katy stood up. "Well that's good then because no mother of mine doesn't accept me for who I am." She said before walking out of the room brushing past her father and through the front door with Cheryl following her.

"I'll drive." Cheryl said, taking the keys from Katy.

They got in the car.

"I should have expected it." Katy eventually said.

"Don't be silly." Cheryl said, fighting back her own tears by biting her lip.

They remained silent the whole journey home.

When they got back at around 6pm, they walked in silently, got changed silently and sat down on the sofa together, silently.

"I'm really sorry." Katy said, rubbing Cheryl's thigh.

"I'm sorry for suggesting we go, I honestly didn't think it'd be quite that bad." Cheryl whispered.

"Shhh." Katy replied, soothingly. "It's not your fault."

Cheryl turned her head in the other direction so Katy couldn't see as a tear fell down her face.

"Eyyyy." Katy said quietly, stroking Cheryl's hair. "Don't cry baby, this isn't your fault."

Cheryl turned her head to face Katy.

"Maybe that was just one sign that we are not meant to be. December is meant to be a happy, festive and family month. Instead, you and your mum had a huge domestic that wouldn't have even taken place if I wasn't here." Cheryl murmured, looking down.

"I wouldn't even be here if you weren't." Katy blurted out.

Cheryl scowled. "What do you mean?" She asked.

Katy sighed.

"I was in a very dark place before I met you, on X Factor, I thought to myself that night 'She's been sent to me as a sign of not giving up. A sign that there are better things to come.' I didn't know my own strength until you came into my life." She said.

Cheryl shook her head in disbelief. "I've caused nothing but trouble for you ever since I've been in your life, Katy." She replied, bluntly but softly.

"Now that's just not true." Katy replied, sympathetically as she pulled Cheryl into a hug.

"We're never gonna be fully accepted no matter where we go or what we do. That's just how it is I guess." Cheryl said, softly.

Katy let go of Cheryl and stood up.

"I'll be right back." She said before disappearing up the stairs.

When she returned, Cheryl was standing looking out of the window.

She turned around as Katy walked towards her.

"I don't care what anyone thinks or says about us, or whether they accept us or not. As long as we accept us, that's all that matters." Katy said, before getting on to one knee.

She pulled out a box from her pocket, opening it to reveal a diamond ring.

"And I accept us. So, Cheryl Ann, will you marry me?" She asked, looking into Cheryl's eyes.

Cheryl was stunned, she put her hand over her mouth before bursting into tears.

"Of course!" She said, through her tears.

Katy slipped the ring on her finger and stood up to embrace her with a tight squeeze.

"I love you." She whispered. "I really, really do."
