"I guess that's that then." Cheryl said, fighting back the tears as she propped her last box full of belongings on to the bed.

Katy smiled, half-heartedly.

She glanced quickly into Cheryl's eyes but soon enough looked away as she couldn't take the heartbreak.

"I wish it didn't have to be this way." She eventually said, quietly.

Cheryl moved her face awkwardly.

"But, I guess that's how life is sometimes." Katy finished.

Cheryl looked into her eyes.

"You don't honestly think I want it to end, either, do you?" She asked, nervously.

"No... It's just, there's more we can do, it doesn't have to be this way, there's nothing telling us we can't make it work." Katy replied.

Cheryl looked towards the ground.

"Say, if I was to stay. How long would it be until the next event occurred and this happened again?" She asked.

"We can try!" Katy exclaimed.

"But all we've been doing is trying, to the point where I don't think I have any trying left, sure, we can keep on pretending - but what's to say it won't end up exactly the same as the other attempts in the end, anyway." Cheryl explained.

"We're stronger than that." Katy said.

"Are we really though, Katy?" Cheryl asked, bluntly.

Katy shifted in her spot.

"The fact we have doubts about that is just another bit of proof that this isn't meant to be. I'm sorry, Katy, there's nothing more I can say." Cheryl stated, brushing past Katy.

"What about a baby?" Katy asked, making Cheryl stop in her tracks and turn around.

"A baby?" Cheryl repeated, in shock.

"Yes! What have we got to lose!?" Katy replied, beginning to sound enthusiastic.

Cheryl frowned, slightly.

"What if I'm not ready to be a mother yet, Katy? We can't just bring an innocent child into our lives for the sake of saving our relationship." She said, firmly.

"I saw how you were with Amelya and-" Katy began but was cut off by Cheryl.

"No. No, it's not the same." She said.

"Why not?" Katy asked.

"Because, I don't think I'm ready to be a mother. All I ever wanted from the day I got married to Ashely was to have a baby and start my family with the husband of every girls dreams. Things kept delaying it and pushing it back to the point where it wasn't a priority any longer, just another thing at the bottom of Ashley's to-do list. I never really understood that until now. I'm not sure if I even want to have a baby anymore, Katy. I'm sorry." Cheryl explained.

Katy stood, dumbfounded.

She swerved behind Cheryl and shut the door, standing with her back to it.

"I'm not going to let you leave this room until we have solved this problem, I am not just going to allow the best thing that ever happened to me leave my life." She said.

Cheryl shook her head.

"Just let me go." She said.

Katy shook her head.

She took a deep breath.

"Okay, Cheryl. Can I ask you a question?" Katy said.

Cheryl nodded.

"Be my guest." She said.

"Why did I find messages on your phone to Ashley, arranging to meet him?" She asked.
