"Not now, Cheryl?" Katy said.

"No, Katy, I really would love to know what this appointment is that you're arranging." Cheryl said.

Katy sighed.

Cheryl raised her eyebrows.

"Go on?" She provoked.

"I want a baby." Katy eventually announced.

Cheryl frowned.

"Sorry, I don't understand." She said, confused.

"I'm arranging to go to meet a sperm donor. I want a baby." Katy repeated.

Cheryl shook her head.

"Without asking me first?" She said.

Katy shrugged.

"I thought it'd be better this way, seeing as you never would have given it a second thought if I'd have told you." She added.

Cheryl was astounded.

"So you thought getting pregnant again, without telling me anything, was the best option?" She asked.

"No. It's just-" Katy began but was cut off by Cheryl.

"Just what?" She provoked.

"I thought it'd make things better. I thought you might be happier." Katy admitted.

Cheryl looked her in the eyes and took hold of her hand.

"A baby isn't what is going to repair this relationship. I already told you this." She said, honestly.

"You don't want a baby, do you?" Katy asked.

"Not now." Cheryl said.

"I don't want to sound shallow but, I used to read stuff about you wanting a baby for so long." Katy said.

"People change, situations change." Cheryl said.

Katy sighed.

Shannon returned.

"Why is there so much tension?" She asked, half playful - half serious.

They all stood up and sat at the table, serving their food.

"Where's David today?" Katy asked, changing the subject.

"Working." Shannon replied, bluntly.

"Wow, on Christmas day?" Cheryl chipped in.

Shannon sighed.

"I'm guessing things aren't so great right now." Katy suggested.

"They're okay." Shannon lied.

Katy shook her head.

"I think I'm pregnant." Shannon announced, casually.

Cheryl and Katy both gasped.

"Pregnant?" Katy repeated.

"I haven't got my period in 2 months." Shannon explained.

"Well, do you want a baby?" Cheryl asked.

Shannon shrugged.

"It wasn't in my near plans." She admitted.

"Does David know?" Katy asked.

"What do you think?" Shannon said.

"I'm guessing not." Katy said.

Shannon shook her head.

"Maybe a baby will save the relationship." She said.

Cheryl frowned and slowly shook her head.

"Why does everyone assume babies are the answer to all relationship problems?" She asked, rhetorically.

"I don't think that, but, it would give us something to focus on other than each others faults." Shannon said.

"And what if it doesn't?" Cheryl asked.

Shannon shrugged.

"Exactly." Cheryl murmured.

"It's worth a shot, surely." Shannon said.

"If you say so." Cheryl replied.

A short silence filled the room as they ate their Christmas dinner until Katy broke the silence.

"We're getting married on New Year's Day." She announced.

Shannon swallowed her food as she raised her eyebrows.

"Wow! So soon?" She asked.

"Yes, nothing too big or extravagant. But, of course you're invited! And David, if he's up for it that is." Katy replied

"Wow, where?" Shannon asked.

Katy and Cheryl looked at each other awkwardly.

"Well, we don't exactly know." Katy said.

"Katy, you've got 7 days to get it sorted. In fact, not even that." Shannon said, laughing.

"We're going to arrange it when we get home, aren't we Katy?" Cheryl chipped in.

"Oh, yes!" Katy replied.

Shannon smiled before returning to eating.

*4pm.*

"Thanks for the dinner, Shan. It was lovely. Hopefully David will be home soon?" Katy said, hugging Shannon.

"Hopefully." Shannon replied, although, she didn't seem certain herself.

"Bye Shannon." Cheryl murmered, letting a faded smile before she got into the car.

Shannon stood in the doorway and waved as they drove away.

Katy's phone began to ring.

"I'll get it." Cheryl said, quickly.

"But-" Katy began but was cut off by Cheryl answering the phone.

"Hello?" She said.

"So she's not left you yet as she said she would, I'm gathering." Rihanna said, on the other end of the phone.

Cheryl's face went bright red as she hung up.

She put the phone down.

"Who was that?" Katy asked, innocently.

"Oh, just someone trying to sell you something." Cheryl lied.
