Chapter 20.

It was Wednesday evening, the night before Lily was due to leave for university and Cheryl and Lily were curled up on the sofa with a bottle of wine and a photo album full of memories. Katy and Shannon were in the kitchen cooking dinner, as a thank you to Cheryl and a goodbye to Lily.

Cheryl turned the page, to a picture of her, Lily and Kimberley hugging with Christmas hats on. She smiled, remembering the day clear as anything.

*Flashback to Christmas Eve 2009*

"Oh god, Kimberley put this hat on it matches your top, I'll wear the yellow one?!!!" Cheryl laughed, shoving the hat on her head but knocking her red wine over on to her own top. Lily was in hysterics, trying to stand up but she couldn't.

"Okay, okay, pull me up ladies?" Lily laughed. "Me top!" Cheryl shouted.

Kimberley joined Lily and fell onto the sofa in a fit of laughter.

Soon Cheryl joined in and fell in between them both on the sofa.

"Take a picture of us!" Cheryl exclaimed to her brother.

"Ok... 3, 2, 1!" Garry said, clicking the button on the flash camera.

*Present time.*

"I remember that Christmas, but oh god look at the wine on me top!" Cheryl said, laughing. "Only you Chez." Lily replied, joining in the laughter.

They turned to the next page to see a picture of Cheryl, Ashley, Lily and Joan smiling on a beach.

"God I need a holiday." Cheryl said, stretching her arms. "Tell me about it." Lily said. Both of them avoided making further conversation of the picture, Lily knew how much it hurt Cheryl to remember Ashley. Just when they were about to turn the next page, Katy shouted them for dinner.

They leapt up and headed for the kitchen.

Katy and Shannon were sitting at a fully set table completed with red wine and candles.

"This, it looks beautiful!" Lily said, taking her seat.

"Yes, it really does. Thank you ladies!" Cheryl added, sitting down.

They tucked into their spaghetti bolegnaise, and then a lemon cheesecake for desert.

"That was gorgeous, thank you so much, wow." Cheryl said, smiling. "I'll make it up to you." She added.

"I know a few ways you can make it up to me, I don't know about Shannon." Katy replied, winking.

"ERM." Shannon said. "I think we've seen enough to last us a life time already, don't you?" Lily laughed. Cheryl went bright red but Katy just laughed. "Oh well." She winked.

*11pm*

They were all sitting in front of the fire with the remains of their wine.

"You're leaving in less than 8 hours..." Cheryl said to Lily. Lily's eyes widened, realising what she had just heard. "8 hours and this will be the last I see of this place for a long time. Wow, I've been practically living here for 6 years now." Lily said, feeling a lump in her throat.

The room went silent for a few minutes.

"I should be getting to bed, it's gone 11 and I need to be out at 7!" Lily said, breaking the silence as she stood up and collected the empty wine glasses.

"Night Lils, I'll set my alarm for 6 so I can help you." Cheryl said, smiling faintly.

Lily smiled back and turned around before they could see the tear rolling down her face.
