Chapter 3

3rd Person POV

When the plane finally got to its destination, the both of them were quick to exit. During that long flight, Ren had barely moved an inch so his body felt like lead. Right as the bottom of his boot made contact with solid ground again, he let out a huge sigh of relief. In his cloudy mind, only one thing was clear to him. He didn't want to fly on another plane for as long as he lived. At that moment, they were making their way out of the airport. Mr. Kenji was on a call with someone which left Ren silently trailing behind listening to what he said.

"I've returned. Were there any problems during my leave?" The demon in front of him paused for a moment and it made Ren's ears perk up in confusion. He could hear two different voices echoing loudly through the speaker, drowning out each other to the point it was almost impossible to make out what they were saying. An annoyed sigh rang out from the taller being as he said, "So...there's nothing that warrants my attention- good. I won't be in the office for at most a week. There's something I have to personally focus on."

The demon's eyes flew over to a barely conscious Ren who was doing everything in his power to stay awake. If they didn't hurry, he'd pass out right where he stood. When Ren noticed the taller being's gaze, he couldn't even look at him funny. His entire body was on the brink of shutting down for sleep.

Thankfully, Shiro kept his steady pace as he continued, "As always, Daiki will take my place during my absence. If anything occurs inform me immediately." Pausing for a moment to hear their response, he then threatened, "To be more specific, only call me if it's important. If I get a call related to anything less than a guest stopping by the office, you both will be on cleanup until I decide otherwise. Do you understand?" Two loud voices chorused in fear, "Y-Yes Boss!!"

The phone call ended there. Once they finally stepped through the doors, the morning sunlight blinded Ren for a moment. It somehow darkened his mood even more. Groaning, he rubbed his eyes and continued following Shiro to his car. The taller being heard him and narrowed his eyes at Ren's complexion, "You don't look well, are you alright?"

His tail was limply trailing behind him as he replied, "What do you think? I've been running on fumes for the last few days. I don't think anyone sane would be alright in this situation." Having gotten sick numerous times, and was majorly sleep-deprived he had absolutely no energy. Contrary to him, the demon was wide awake and alert. Making his way in the direction his vehicle was parked, he asked, "Are you suggesting that I'm not sane then?"

Shiro's voice was laced with amusement as he closed his eyes for a moment but Ren piped up in confusion dragging his feet and continued with the matter, "I just don't understand how you don't look the least bit tired. You didn't get any sleep either." After they stepped past a few rows of vehicles, the taller being barely shrugged, "It's something I've long grown accustomed to. In my line of work, it'd be peculiar if I managed to get anything more than four hours of sleep every couple of days."

Staring at the back of his head, he grew curious after finally hearing something new about him. Wondering if he could get another answer out of him, Ren questioned, "And just what kind of work is it that you do?" Hoping that the taller being would spill the beans- to his disappointment it didn't work. Right as Shiro pulled his keys out to unlock his car, a light beep echoed two vehicles away from where they stood and the tail lights flashed.

"The kind that brings insomnia. Now hurry up. I'd rather not linger here for much longer," the probing conversation came to an abrupt halt as his eyes focused on something in the distance. It only lasted for a second before he finally opened the car door and climbed in. Ren took notice of it and got curious. Turning his head, he tried his best to see what caught the taller beings' attention but nothing out of the ordinary could be seen.
