It wasn't common for Vera to be the last to wake up, but then again, nothing about their new life was very common at all. What was even stranger though, were her very loud sneezes all of the girls could hear through the door of her bedroom. All had had their fair share of sneezes since they'd started living here, courtesy of the thick layer of dust over every piece of furniture. But none as much as Vera, who seemed to sneeze at the same rhythm as her heartbeat.

When she finally opened the door, it was plain to see why on her face. Her eyes were red, glassy, with pesky dark circles tugging them down. Her nose was even redder, battered by the harsh paper of the old pack of tissues Solhwi had found at the bottom of her bag. Vera was sick — and if anyone was still in doubt, she greeted them with a giant sneeze instead of a hello.

"Are you okay?" Solhwi asked hesitantly, already reaching for the paper towels they'd placed on the kitchen counter.

Vera opened her mouth, closed it again, and tried to speak a second time, her eyes squinting as she tried to hold back an incoming sneeze. "I think I may have... Caught a cold, because of the temperature. Or..." She pressed her lips together, in an unspoken battle against herself. "Maybe it's just allergies."

As if her words had affected reality, the girls suddenly shivered, only now aware of the lack of warmth. Summer was right around the corner, and with it, its often unbearable heat, but as of now the temperature was reasonable. And yet, that did not seem to translate to this room.

Her eyebrows furrowed, Sara stood from the couch and stomped her way over to the lone radiator in the corner of her room. She passed her hand over it, expecting to feel even the slightest warm breeze, but there was none. In fact, it hardly seemed like the thing was turned on. Not that she could really tell, considering how old and out of place it looked. Any older and she would have to shovel coal into it.

"Huh, I don't think it's working," she murmured to herself, before knocking on it once or twice in a vain attempt to wake it up.

Sangah swiftly grabbed her hand and pulled it towards her. "Woah there, let's not end up having to pay for damaged property."
