One would think it would be easy to find a restaurant in the streets of Bangkok — it wasn't. Nearly all of them were jam‐packed for the night, and Sara had just about run out of saved addresses in her notes. By the time night had already set, the group was still looking for a place to eat, venturing in the less populated areas of the city.
Solhwi's stomach had started grumbling twenty minutes ago. Passing by every full restaurant and their appetizing smells was like torture, but she held onto the hope that, at last, they would find somewhere that served food. That was all she wanted, really. Food. At this point, it didn't even need to be exceptional. It just needed to exist.
Sara walked right past what seemed to be a restaurant without even checking the availability, and Solhwi raised an eyebrow. She looked at the sign on the storefront, then at the menu, and gasped.
"Oh, this one serves insects!" she exclaimed, drawing the attention of her friends. "Let's go there!"
None of her enthusiasm was reflected in any of her friends' faces, as they stared at her with hesitant grimaces. It quickly dawned on Solhwi that, maybe, insects weren't exactly to everyone's taste. She'd never tried them herself, but food was food. She never knocked something before she tried it — that was how you missed out on incredible flavors and life-changing meals.
"Uhhh," Seunghan slurred, scratching his nape, "I think we'll try that one over there. It doesn't seem full."
Solhwi's shoulders dropped. "Aw. I guess I'll go alone then."
As much as she'd always been told company made meals a thousand times better, Solhwi had never minded eating alone. It wasn't like she was very good at entertaining conversation, let alone when she was utterly concentrated on her food. Still, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment in her heart. New experiences were always better shared. This was the whole reason they'd come on this trip, wasn’t it?
Suddenly, Sohee stepped out from the group. "I... I'll go with you!"
"Really?" Solhwi deadpanned.
"Yeah! Insects sound... Fun. I've never tried that."
