A trip to Las Vegas is never complete until one steps foot in a casino. At least that was what Shotaro had said as soon as dinner had ended, ushering them towards the entertainment wing of their hotel with a far too ecstatic smile. They had yet to step inside the space hidden behind gigantic, tinted glass doors, but Vera could hear the rising hubbub of a whole city in there. Laughter, conversations, the mechanical sound of levers being pulled, and a whole lot of little jingles scrambled together.

Not really her thing, she'd concluded without needing to walk in. She'd never tried her hand at poker or other games in the same vein, and certainly didn’t have money to spare on pure random chance. She wasn’t the only one to come to that conclusion — Sara hadn't even stuck around long enough to reach the doors, hurrying back to her room to watch a movie. The thing was, Vera wasn't quite as brave as Sara when it came to expressing her opinions and parting from the group. She certainly didn’t want to seem like a buzzkill...

As she often did when in distress, Vera looked for Yuhwa. The older girl was observing the group from a distance, her arms crossed over her chest.

"Hey, um, Yuhwa," she said as she approached her. "I don't really feel like going. How about you?"

After all, Yuhwa didn’t seem like the type to like casinos either. Vera pressed her lips together as she waited for her response, praying it would be just the one she wanted. But just before Yuhwa could open her mouth, voices rose from the group.

"Is there a bar in there?" Sangah asked, already slurring her speech. "I'm only going if there's alcohol."

Shotaro gleefully clapped her on the back. "Of course there is! Come on, let's go blow all our money on slot machines!"

Yuhwa's expression soured, and Vera felt her hopes falter. She pouted as their gazes met, but couldn’t muster up any complaint. Yuhwa already had it tough enough. No need to add onto her plate with a childish tantrum.

"I think I'd better go keep an eye on everyone."

"I get it," Vera said as she nodded, trying to sound natural. "Have fun!"
