Light walked to the taskforce building alongside his lover.

As they went through a series of security checks to reach the main taskforce meeting room, Light noticed his girlfriend glancing around wearily.

"What's wrong love?"

Light watched in awe as she swiftly turned around and flashed the most breath taking smile to him before rubbing it off as 'exhaustion from last night'.

As the young couple finally entered the main taskforce meeting room, they were met with an unexpected sight of an unexpected 'guest'.

Light glanced at the figure of the familiar boy sitting on the sofa opposite to where L sat, crouched in his weird position.

The other members of the taskforce turned around as they gave light greetings to the couple who just entered the room.

Minoru's eyes were blindfolded and he had noise cancelling headphones on so that he couldn't hear anything. His usual playfulness and cockiness gone, replaced by a more vulnerable sight.

Light grinned internally as he pretended to be shocked like all the other taskforce members. Besides, it was not everyday L took in 'random' people into the taskforce building where they were investigating the world's largest mass murderer.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.

𝘏𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘳𝘪𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘓 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬.

Light internally smirked as his Shinigami, Ryuk started cackling like he always did whenever he found something interesting.

Because Ryuk knew what was going to happen.

Light almost got lost in his daze until he felt his lover walk towards the centre of the room where L and Minoru Tanaka were sitting opposite to each other.

"Ryuzaki.. Why is he..?" (Y/n) trailed off as her gaze fell on the teenager who just sat there with his head down to the ground, it was as if he was being punished or he was severely embarrassed.

"Miss Gevanni, Light-kun.. We have been waiting for you.." L said as he took a sip of his tea before adding two more sugar cubes to his coffee.

"Ryuzaki.. What's going on?" Light asked, putting on his best innocent guy voice as he gestured towards Minoru.

The other members of the taskforce seemed to tense a little.

"Light-kun, I believe Minoru Tanaka here is an accomplice to Kira" L said nonchalantly.

"I believe he's the second Kira" L finished as both Light and (Y/n) just stared at L in shock.

"But Ryuzaki, didn't you say the second Kira stopped killing?" Light interjected quickly.

"Yes, however that's just what Kira wants us to think. I believe, in fact, I know that the second Kira is active alongside the original Kira" L glanced at Light pointedly.

"But Ryuzaki.. He's just a kid.. Are you sure he's..?" (Y/n) asked quietly as he stared at Minoru with concern.

Before L could continue, Soichiro Yagami spoke up.

"Ryuzaki has evidence against him" Soichiro Yagami said with a sigh.

"So what are we going to do now?" Matsuda chimed in.

"Minoru Tanaka will be under a 72 hour surveillance and he will be questioned. If he refuses to cooperate then we will and we can keep him under surveillance for longer" L said in a cold tone.

The temperature of the room dropped.

L was basically proposing to kidnap Minoru, a teenager, just because he thinks, or knows that he is the second Kira.

"Well what evidence do we have against him?" (Y/n) asked as she approached L who kept his gaze locked on the teenager in front of him.

"A clue about how 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 kill, he won't speak up of course"

Light shuddered as the words reached his ears. He sharply glanced at Minoru as he saw him turning his head towards Light's direction as if he knew where Light was. His body language seemed to say "trust me on this".

The entire taskforce watched the disturbing sight of Minoru Tanaka being restrained to a metal bed. He was blindfolded and, his hands and legs were tied behind him.

𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴? 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘶𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘪𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝘐𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦..

𝘕𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥'𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘧 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘓'𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘸 𝘪𝘵.

𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘶 𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢.

Light glared at Minoru's figure through the screen.

L pressed a button as he spoke on the microphone.

"Minoru Tanaka, can you hear me?"

"Yes" Minoru spoke through, his voice unfazed like nothing ever happened and everything was totally normal.

"What do you know about Kira?"

"You got the wrong person"

"So you won't talk?" L's voice suddenly came as cold and distant as chills ran down everyone's spines.

"... "

"Ryuzaki! If I volunteer to be under surveillance and the killings still continue then will you believe that I'm not kira!?" Light suddenly yelled as everyone turned towards Light.

"... Alright.." L said as he smirked at Light.

Soichiro Yagami and (Y/n) were quick to protest but Light turned them down.

Soichiro Yagami not able to see his son undergo such scrutiny, volunteered to also be surveillanced.

And so the critical hours began.
