Sometimes it's forgotten that before John Watson meets Sherlock, he's already an extraordinary man. He's a soldier, he's an army surgeon who saves lives. He can take lives. It's just that he meets someone who is even more extraordinary. In a normal room of people, John Watson would be "The Guy" cus he can do stuff that hardly anybody else can do.
But....... his flatmate just happens to be a genius. So it's kind of a really impressive block meets a fantastically impressive bloke. And together they make magic.
