Well, in his mind palace, he believes he's dying. He really does. When he hugs Redbeard, he says that he's being put down.
And why is there a connection between these two locations, and why are these the two barriers between Sherlock and John in his mind palace.
The Study in Pink, it was their first case. When Sherlock is dying, he truly things this is going to be his last case with John. And why are those two locations between Sherlock and John when he's dying?
