THE NEXT MORNING, WHEN HAYLEY WOKE UP, SHE WAS GLAD IT WAS A SATURDAY. She had slept horribly the night before, and she doubted that she would survive a day at school. Thoughts of last night's events rushed to her mind, and she groaned as she felt a headache coming on.
By the time Hayley finally forced herself to go downstairs, Bella had already left. She and Jake were taking their bikes out today, and her sister had poked her head into her room before she left, asking the older Swan girl if she wanted to go. Hayley kindly declined and burrowed deeper into her blankett burrito. The girl didn't want to risk going outside and seeing him.
But as the hours changed from nine a.m. to noon, the oldest Swan twin finally dragged herself from her nest of blanketts and decided to head downstairs. And Charlie was waiting for her at the table, a beer in his hand and a concerned look on his tired face. It seemed he hadn't gotten much sleep either.
