FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS THAT BELLA WAS GONE, HAYLEY SPENT HER TIME COMFORTING HER FATHER. Charlie had been a wreck since the funeral, but finding out that his youngest daughter had up and left for Italy had made his mental state even worse. So, Hayley put off moving out and stayed with Charlie for those two days. She was by his side the whole time, his second shadow as Billy had so kindly named her. But she didn't mind. Her father needed her right now, and she wasn't going anywhere.
She was perched on the couch with her laptop on the coffee table in front of her. Those college applications weren't going to fill themselves out, and she had been putting them off for long enough. Textbooks and notebooks were stacked on the couch beside her, and her fingers rapidly typed away at the red computer.
Charlie sat in his recliner, watching with dull amusement as his older daughter muttered a few colorful words when she decided that the college she had been looking at wasn't worth her time. He had been quiet those last few days, and even though he was furious at Bella for leaving, he was glad that Hayley had decided to stay. That also meant Xander showing up at random times.
