DEATH WAS SOMETHING THAT RARELY OCCURRED IN HAYLEY SWAN'S LIFE. The last funeral she had been to was Sarah Black's, and she was only a kid back then. But the scene and feel seemed all too familiar as she stood in the living room of the Clearwater home. Harry Clearwater had always had a weak heart, and after years of no trouble, a heart attack had claimed his life in the blink of an eye.

Her father and Billy were with Sue, trying their best to console the grieving widow. But there was only so much they could do. Leah had taken off, anger all over her face, and her body shaking. Hayley had an idea of what was about to happen, but she kept her mouth shut and hoped that the pack would be able to help the Clearwater woman.

Sam and Paul were there while Jared and Embry were out in the woods, most likely keeping an eye on Leah. The Alpha talked quietly to the hothead, and Hayley stayed clear of the two, her stitches stinging at the sight of the wolves. So, she stayed tucked away in the corner, eyes tracing over the house she had been in many times in her youth. She frowned, however, when she couldn't find Seth.

Hayley knew the layout of the Clearwaters' house well, and after seeing that the young teen wasn't in his bedroom, she made her way out the back door.

Seth's back was towards her, his shoulder shaking in quiet sobs, and Hayley's heart broke for the boy. She made sure he could hear her footsteps as she drew closer, and slowly, she took a seat beside him. His face was buried in his knees, but she could hear his cries even though they were muffled.
