THE NEXT WEEK WAS HARD FOR HAYLEY. She hadn't talked much to Xander, the blonde wanting to give her space. Billy and Jacob came by daily; the older man was no longer cold to his goddaughter. He had told her they would talk soon, and she knew what it was about, but she would wait until she was no longer forced to sit still on the bed while her stitches healed.
Bella was able to go back to school with only a cast, but her twin was on full house recovery. It was safe to say she would be out for the rest of the semester. Luckily, the school was completely understanding and would allow her to continue her work online so she could pass her junior year of high school.
But unfortunately, she would miss Prom.
Jessica had been hellbent on not going after finding out Hayley wouldn't be able to attend. She wouldn't let her best friend stay home on one of the most exciting nights of their lives. But Hayley wouldn't allow it, telling her that she had already spent a lot of money on her pink dress and Mike would be disappointed. So, Jessica agreed to go, but not without protesting now and again.
Bella, on the other hand, would be attending Prom. Edward had asked her, and of course, she said yes, always wanting to please the mind reader. It still bothered Hayley how much her sister cared what Edward thought, but he did save them, and she knew he loved her sister, so she would let it slide. For now, at least.
So, on the morning of prom, while Bella was getting ready, Hayley was perched on the couch with her father. The older Swan sister was sad she wouldn't get to attend prom, but she never found a dress in the first place, and after everything with James, she didn't want to be the center of attention.
