"Do you want me to tag along, Love?" Jungkook asked while fixing his necktie in front of the mirror, adjusting it with care as he glanced at his reflection.
Jimin, who had been folding the comforter at the foot of their bed, paused and looked up with a soft smile. He walked over and gently took the tie from Jungkook's hands, smoothing the fabric with practice ease. "No need, it's just me and Taehyung—just going to shop for his baby,” he said, his fingers working delicately on the knot.
Jungkook couldn't help the fond smile that curled on his lips as he looked down at his husband. His heart fluttered at the little things Jimin did—like this, fixing his tie so tenderly. Leaning in, he stole a quick kiss from Jimin's lips. “Okay. Oh—by the way, I took a leave for tomorrow so we can travel.” he added with a grin. "Tokyo? Paris?"
Jimin stopped mid-motion and tilted his head, brows furrowing. “Tomorrow? Suddenly?”
Jungkook blinked, confused. “Suddenly? What do you mean suddenly?” His voice was light, but there was an edge of doubt creeping into his chest. Was Jimin joking?
Jimin let out a chuckle and went back to adjusting the collar of Jungkook's shirt. “I mean, why suddenly travel tomorrow? What's the occasion?” he asked curiously, eyes still focused on the fabric in his hands.
Jungkook froze.
Just like that, his smile faded. His hands stilled by his sides. So Jimin forgot. He forgot the date. Was it really not important to him? The thought sent a lump crawling up Jungkook's throat, and he had to swallow hard to stop it from showing.
Jimin looked up again, sensing the sudden shift in energy. “Honey?”
Jungkook cleared his throat quickly, trying to force a laugh. “N-nothing,” he said with a weak smile, rubbing the back of his neck. “I must be wrong about the date.”
Jimin giggled, clearly not suspecting anything. “Love, don't tell me you're getting old now.” He playfully slapped his chest, and Jungkook only rolled his eyes, trying to keep his heart from sinking deeper.
As Jimin walked back toward the bed to pick up the folded comforter, Jungkook lingered by the mirror for a moment longer, watching his reflection—watching himself try to hold it together.
It had been a week since he saw the pregnancy tests.
And from that day, after four days— they came back home.
In those four days, Jungkook did everything he could not to show how sad he was. He smiled through dinners, kissed Jimin goodnight, and held him close in bed, even when his mind wouldn't stop running. He didn't want Jimin to worry. More than that, he didn't want to make Jimin feel pressured.
He was scared that if he brought it up—the pregnancy, the tests, the possibility of becoming parents—Jimin might think that he only wanted the baby. That everything Jungkook had done, every change he made in himself, was just to have a child.
But that wasn't it.
He didn't want to be misunderstood.
So he chose silence.
He told himself maybe it wasn't meant to be—not yet. Maybe God had other plans, and they just had to wait. So he breathed deeply, tucked the ache in his chest where Jimin wouldn't see it, and moved forward.
Thinking about all of this made a small smile tug at the corner of his lips. A bittersweet one.
Character development, huh?
He really had changed.
He remembered the version of himself who used to talk about babies every chance he got—pressuring, asking, pushing. He was so caught up in the dream of being a father that he forgot the most important part: Jimin. The person who would carry that child. The one who mattered more than anything.
