Frankie and Connor Sousa-Sloan were sitting on Eddie and Mark's bed, as Eddie was doing their hair. Frankie's hair was done-the four years old blonde had her hair in two dutch braids, tied off with little ribbons with softballs on them. She was watching her mom work on Connor's curls. She always loved her little sister's curls, though she didn't think she'd want her mommy to have to do all that stuff to her hair.
Eddie had made sure that she learned how to upkeep and maintain Connor's curls, wanting the young girl to be proud of her hair, and know how to manage it and make it as healthy as possible. She knew a lot of girls who fried their hair because having straight hair was easier than the curls.
"Okay Miss Pumpkin...mommy is almost done." Eddie promised and the little girl nodded, she was happy to play with her stuffed elephant and watch the TV show she and her sister were watching.
"Kay mommy" Connor said.
"Mommy, why does Coco have curly hair?" Frankie asked.
Mark and Eddie had always explained to the girls that Connor was adopted. She and Mark always made sure they celebrated the day they become a family, Eddie would tell Connor about how her birth mommy loved her enough to make sure she was going to be okay, and how her name came to be. And, they explained that she was with Uncle George in heaven watching over them.
"Because her birth mommy had very curly hair too." Eddie said, remembering Florence, who had died. Her death still weighed sometimes on her when she thought about Connor growing up. Connor didn't seem to have questions about what adopted meant, but Eddie and Mark never wanted to keep her in the dark about it, because that seemed to cruel and wrong.
"Oh." Frankie said. "Cool!"
"Yeah." Eddie said as she smiled at her oldest.
"Just like me?" Connor asked.
"Yes. Just like you, which makes them very special Connor." Eddie informed her little girl seriously.
Connor smiled widely, as Eddie fished pinning the braids up into the milkmaid braid that Connor saw on another girl and immediately wanted, Eddie was still mastering it, but it seemed to look good on the little girl.
