Ekansh turned off the alarm as he woke up. He rubbed his eyes and looked beside him but did not find Maya. He looked around and got up. He looked at the bathroom, but it was unlocked, so she couldn't be there.
Where did she go? he thought, checking the time. It was still early. He got up and checked inside the bathroom and balcony. Not finding her, he checked inside the closet and sighed with relief, finding her there.
He went in and squatted beside her, seeing her asleep while sitting. Why is she here? he thought, brushing her hair from her face carefully so as not to wake her. His eyes fell on the album in her lap. He took it, staring at it before looking back at her.
Setting it down, he picked her up carefully and laid her down on the bed, trying to move his hand away from below her head. He sat down and held her head, attempting to take his hand away, but she opened her eyes due to the movement.
She blinked, shaking off sleep, and was shocked to see him so close.
She got up with a jolt, making him move back a little.
"You slept in the closet, so I brought you here."
She nodded.
Ekansh got up to freshen up while Maya sat on the bed, rubbing her neck, which was hurting. She lay down for a while and fell asleep again unknowingly.
Ekansh came out and saw her sleeping again. He closed the door behind him as he went to the gym.
During the workout, his phone pinged, gaining his attention. He looked at it.
He had an appointment today with the doctor for Maya.
Should I take her today? No. I will talk to the doctor first.
He thought and continued with his workout.
Maya's sleep was disturbed by some noise in the room. She sat up in bed, her eyes falling on Ekansh, who was ready to go out. She glanced at the clock. It was 9 am.
Why did I sleep so much? she thought, pushing aside the blanket.
"Get ready. We have to go down for breakfast," he said. Maya nodded and went to the closet, picking her clothes before heading to the washroom.
She stripped off and turned on the shower.
How will I face everyone? she thought anxiously as she washed herself. I need to do this.
She came out wearing a simple suit, wrapping her hair in a towel. He was not there in the room. Maya stood in front of the mirror and rubbed her hair, drying it a little. She looked at her empty neck. Earlier, she would never go out without her nuptial chain; she hardly ever used to remove it.
Setting the towel aside, she brushed her hair a little, took her dupatta, arranged the bed, and went out of the room. She looked for Ekansh.
"Let's go," he said, coming towards her after finishing his call.
Maya nodded, walking behind him. She glanced down; no one was there. Ekansh sat down at the dining table, signaling her to sit.
She stood there, making him frown.
Maya gripped the chair, not moving. "You eat... I will serve," she said, but Ekansh stopped her, grabbing her hand and making her sit.
A maid came to serve them. Ekansh asked about his parents.
"They said to serve them in their room only," she said.
Ekansh nodded; Maya looked down, feeling bad.
