Author's POV
Maya looked at Riya who was looking at the list of things in her hand and picked up a big packet of wheat flour, dropping it in the cart. They had come for grocery shopping, and the list was huge.
Riya looked around for the thing she was searching for and walked towards the shelves while Maya pushed the cart, going ahead.
"Riya? Are we done?"
Riya looked at her and smiled, saying, "No. Are you tired already?"
"Yes!" Maya looked down at the half-filled cart and back at her.
"I told you I would take someone else, but you still came."
Maya huffed, shaking her head. "It’s been so long since I went out for something. But, I didn't know it would take this long."
Riya laughed, dropping the items in.
A kid came running and stumbled into Maya, crashing into her legs.
"Ah! Hey." Maya bent down, holding the little boy before he could fall. Looking at his pout, she thought he was going to cry, but she was surprised when the baby laughed, melting her heart with his cuteness. Maya smiled and looked back for his parents, but no one was there.
The child looked like he was two years old. She squatted down to his level, seeing him looking at her with those big eyes curiously, and squeezed his cheeks lovingly.
"What's your name, baby?"
The child looked at her and said cutely, "A..han."
"Aahan." Maya pronounced it correctly, and he giggled, sucking on the chocolate that was in his hand.
"Wow! Such a cute baby!" Riya exclaimed, coming towards them and started cooing to him, and both enjoyed seeing his cute expressions.
Maya looked at him longingly, caressing his soft cheeks. Her heart ached from the memory of her child. The pain was still buried in her.
Before her tears could flow out, a man came towards them and took the child in his arms.
"Your mother was right! You won’t stand still for a moment, will you?" he said playfully, glaring at his son, who giggled and said something only his father could understand.
Maya stood up as the man smiled at them. "Sorry if he troubled you. I let him down for a moment, and he ran away."
"Oh, it’s okay! Your son is cute, by the way," Riya said.
Maya nodded her head, looking at the child and his father. She felt weird for a moment, like she knew him. But she shrugged it off. The man also looked at her without blinking, confusing her, before he went away.
Maya let it go, and they both finished their shopping and, with the help of the driver, took the bags to the car.
"That baby was so cute, right? I also want my baby to be like that in the future. Don’t you also?" Riya asked, her eyes sparkling.
Maya stayed mute without saying anything. No one was there to share her pain, to tell how much it hurt. Only if she had stopped being stupid and listened to her heart.

At night.
Maya was sitting in the balcony, leaning against the railing, her eyes closed in her own thoughts. She wasn’t able to sleep. All the bitter memories were haunting her sleep; more than that, the loneliness was making her drown in more sadness.
