74. An Empires Plans to Delay

Calgulio's POV

I and the other generals had been recently summoned to the emperor's room to discuss plans on invading the western nations. At first it seemed like it would be easy since Veldora had disappeared but now it seems something even worse than him had moved into the Jura forest. Not just a demon lord but even another True dragon had as well. Worse still is the rumors about that very nation having multiple demon lords living there together. I can only hope that they are actually fighting for control among themselves instead of being united in some way.

After entering the meeting room and sitting in my assigned place I wait for the other generals to arrive along with the emperor himself. As a continue to wait I have an unexpected person come to speak to me. He's a spy I had planted in the security division so I can gain information faster than my piers. By having such information, I can gain a better understanding of any situation so I can gain more merit and rise higher in my social standing. As I noticed him I knew this meeting would be a most important one. Leaning in to hear him speak so as to not have our discussion heard easily, I begin by asking my own question so as to seem like the superior in the conversation of knowledge.

Calgurio- "What do you have for me to be interrupting a meeting with all the top brass in the empire for?"

Aid- "Sir the emperor apparently recently sent a small force to investigate the Jura Forest by manipulating the western church. Apparently this meeting is to bring to light what that team found and to decide what we will do about the growing forces in the forest. But most of all something I heard but have a hard time believing myself sir."

Something that even he has a hard time believing? It must be something extraordinary for it to be of that level. He once told me about Veldora being revived faster than anticipated and didn't even bat an eye about it. Now he's saying this information is hard to believe, this could be troublesome after all.

Calgurio- "I will be the one to decide if it's hard to believe or not. Now tell me what you have to report before this meeting starts."

Aid- "Sir according to the newest intel one of the people that fought in the battle with the monsters in the forest was an apprentice of the emperor. He was apparently as strong as a single digit too."

Calgurio- "Such a man being killed that was a close ally of the empire is a stain on our reputation. I now see why the emperor has called us all here. He must be planning to get vengeance against the beasts of the forest to reclaim his honor. Though for a man of such strength to have fallen is even more of a surprise. Is there anything else you have for me?"

If it was just that he'd of just shrugged it off and not cared. No, there was more to this.

Calgurio- "Who killed the apprentice?"

Aid- "It was apparently one of the demon lords that live in the Jura forest. At least that's what I hear from the investigation department. But I did my own side investigation and the people of the west think it was Hinata the paladin captain."

Calgurio- "Hm I see. A possible coverup then."

Aid- "It seems likely to me or it could be a false flag operation too."

Calgurio- "And here I thought I was greedy. I guess the emperor has me beat. Is there anything else that you managed to dig up?"

Aid- "Well this is unconfirmed but rumors say that the Tempest Theocracy of Jura has both the previous demon lords Frey and Karion working for the leader there as loyal subjects. Some rumors even say that demon lord Milim was spotted in the county too but I can't confirm this yet."
