-Freddie's POV-
I shouldn't have known he would do that, run straight into a bar because of a scream. What the hell was he thinking going in to some place where his habit started? He could've gotten hurt for God's sake! Maybe he truly thought something was wrong in there and just wanted to further investigate. Like he said, he's getting older and that I really shouldn't get in the way of his decisions. I headed back to Tilly's, the whole place looked incredibly crowded. The entrance was surrounded by ambulances hauling away injured people on stretchers. What the actual hell happened?
"What the bloody hell happened?", Roger gasped at the scene. "Deaky was right about the fight. It must've been so brutal by how many drunkards got beaten badly.", I muttered. A fellow employee walked out of the building and came. "It was a wreck in there we couldn't stop him for some reason.", he said, "that is, until this young man helped us stay out of harm's way and let us follow our own safety measures."
Of course.
"Was he averaged height, long brunette hair, early twenties, grey eyes?", Rog asked. "Yup!", the employee chirped. Moments later I saw John run towards me, he embraced me tightly. "Freddie oh my gosh! I'm glad you're here, I was gonna find you!", he uttered, he sounded traumatized. "Sweetie, I'm glad that you're okay.", I responded softly. "We're glad you're not hurt, but seriously, what the hell happened?", Roger pointed out.
"Well I guess this taller average guy just started throwing a punch at his first targeted person for no absolute reason and then according to one of the employees, a couple people jumped him and chaos just erupted.", John explains.
"I see. We better get going.", I murmured. "But wait, the employee I helped, she said she has something—"
"If it's a coupon for a drink on them, you're not getting it!", I snapped. John stood there and sighed sadly. "Fine. I'll tell her to keep it.", he said, he saw the employee walk closer. "Here you go, mister erm...John right? One coupon book!", the young girl said. "Emily, I apologize for not telling you sooner, but I want to let you know that I’m sober now. The situation was quite intense, and I appreciate your understanding.", John explains.
"Oh it's okay. I can definitely pass this book to someone else if you'd like.", she inquiries. "Yes, please. On his behalf of course", I butted in. Deaky gave me a small humble glare and nodded. "I'll definitely do that. Thank you again, Mr. John.", Emily replied, she went on her way back to the bar. I pulled my love to the side smiling at him with gratitude. "I’m genuinely proud of you. It took real strength and maturity to tell her the truth instead of accepting that coupon book for that dangerous liquid called alcohol. That shows real growth—and you’re proving you’re not willing to go back down that road again. We don't want to go back on it, do we?", I said, he shook his head no in response.
"See, my dear, you’re truly improving at saying no! How about we head home and enjoy a lovely glass of that other drink along with a couple of delightful dark chocolate bars? It would be a nice treat!" He attempted to say something, but his lips were quivering instead. I promptly put an end to that by leaning in for a passionate kiss. I grinned like a child on Christmas after letting him go.
"Come along now, let's get home."
But looks like something else was on John's mind.
He didn't budge, but sat down. "You wouldn't believe the horror that just happened here. It was after I went in, there was so many people just hitting each other, all because of that one guy started something. They just attempted to stop him, that's all. Blood and beer glasses were everywhere, but mostly on the floor", he explained. "I know you wanna tell me this, but let's further discuss this at—" "I had to go in just to see if anyone was hurt. Emily was, her arm was bleeding, I took her to the back. Several other employees were cowarding in fear, another employee, Nathan, gave me a good description of the guy. I remembered it vividly and I went back out and confronted him....my way.", John interrupted.
"Oh please, how did you do it?", I heard Roger snarl. "I didn't even say shit much, which really pissed him off. Silence can be a weapon against even the toughest people.", Deaky elaborated. He wasn't wrong though. "That's when the cops pulled up, along with ambulances. Because people may have succumbed to injury.", I murmured. "Exactly. Listen, I understand that this was were my problem started, but my God, people were in danger! Honestly, it didn't really matter wherever it was, I just wanted to help. And I had to step in, because I have a heart!"
That last sentence nearly broke me, he's right about it, he does have a heart for others' well beings, and honestly I didn't mean to try and get in his way about it. I helped him up and hugged him. "Honey, I'm so sorry for trying to get in your way again. You're right sweetest, you do have a heart. I'm sure the employees really do appreciate you." "I just had to do what felt right to me, Freddie. I hope you understand that.", he uttered. "Of course baby, I completely understand! I love you very much.", I reassured.
"We oughta get outta here, Brian's probably wondering where we went.", Roger informed. "He's right, c'mon doll." I stated grabbing hold of his hand. "But wait, can't I just get—"
"NO!", Roger and I both yelled. To our surprise, he didn't have an outburst or emotional breakdown like usual, he just calmly replied, "Fine." No crooked expression on his face. Not only had he become mature enough to say no... but emotionally mature too. He walked in front of us leading the way. Roger and I looked at each other in pure awe, pretty much shocked, it was a better reaction than what we expected.
Looks like I'm gonna give him two whole chocolate bars for that. I mean, he deserves it, right?
