-Freddie's POV-

August may have started off rough, but a new month brings new beginnings—especially for the band. I’ve been diving into the design for our new logo, and I think I’ve landed on something that could become truly iconic. While working on it, I jotted down all of our zodiac signs too. Brian’s a Cancer—the crab. I’m a Virgo, supposedly the Virgin like Mary, though I’ve already stolen my lover's. Then there are our two prideful Leos, Roger and John—no surprise there! Even though I honestly thought he was at least a Taurus with his stubbornness.

Also it is August 1st, which technically means eighteen days until John's 20th birthday, but with all the trouble he's gotten into already, the one thing that could go alright is a birthday party. I was sketching away with the logo until I heard John stumble into the kitchen. "Johnny, dear, I thought I were asleep.", I said. "Not quite. I just wanted something to drink, but there's no interesting drinks other than tea, water, and that carbonated water. Nothing really interesting with the exception of unusual ingredients to make drinks.", he complained. "How about I make you a surprise mock tail? I'll make it after I finish up a project.", I suggested.

He turned to me giving me a confusing gaze. "Why a mocktail? I'm wondering why I can't have a real cocktail instead. Is it because I'm opting for sobriety?", he inquired sadly. "Certainly! You've shown such incredible dedication to your sobriety for so long; I believe you truly deserve a little treat, don’t you think?", I replied. "How long have I been sober?", he asked. "You’ve been committed to sobriety since the start—right when we kicked off our first gig as a band and began this relationship, love. You spent two months in that facility, and you’ve stayed strong ever since. We’re all so proud of you, baby doll.", I responded humbly.

He shook his head and shut the refrigerator. "Anyways, you were working on a band logo, right? I'd like to see an example.", he slightly uttered changing the subject immediately. "I wanted to offer you a nice non alcoholic mojito, but it seems as if you already declined.", I noted. "Do you even know how to make one of those anyways? You said you used to bartend.", Deaky snarkily commented. "Actually, I do know how! You're fortunate enough that I'm making them for you to keep my skills intact, even though I do have some regrets about working in a bar!", I ranted.

He didn't say anything else, didn't get mad at me for it or anything. "I'm sorry, I understand. I didn't mean for that to get to me again.", he calmly apologizes, "Even though I can no longer have the real thing, at least your creations taste much better." I nearly teared up but I went over and gave him a big hug and a sloppy cheek kiss. "Aww, deakling, you really think so?", I asked. "I know so.", he said smiling a little. I pulled him closer but he flinched, a little "ow" came from him.

"Oh I'm sorry doll, your nose, it's still in stitches.", I pointed out. He briefly patted the bandaged area. "Did I forget to take my antibiotics for it?", he questioned. "Of course not. You took them earlier.", I reminded him, he sighed in relief. I didn't want to bring it up, but it is almost his birthday.

"Say babe...I know a big day is approaching for you. What are your ideal plans for it?", I inquired. "Well, if it’s a big day, then it calls for a celebration—the kind that has the whole neighborhood buzzing, naturally. Everything has to be unforgettable. Decorations? Strictly handmade, no exceptions. I trust you’ll work your magic with the drinks—nobody does it better. The others can split duties—snacks and music are theirs to handle. As for the theme… let’s go bold! Maybe something fun like a razzmatazz spectacle or a full-on color palette party where everyone picks a shade to represent. Bright, loud, and impossible to ignore. Let’s make it legendary.", he rambled.

He doesn't know that I've noted this information in my mind. We'll definitely make this happen.

"Sounds interesting, baby. We can work out something like that.", I hummed. "I'm sure we can have it here, the place is big enough.", John mentions. "Of course, we've had our first party here, remember? The house warming."

"Fred, please don't remind me. It was a very shitty time—"

"You danced your ass off, little liar! At least you weren't so moody about being sober.", I teased jokingly. "But at least I confessed to you about drinking, yet you still shaped me into this ideal partner. Also I understand why...you set a boundary that should never be broken.", he sighed. "Well, look at you, baby! You're demonstrating such wonderful emotional maturity. It seems like you might be a little hesitant to acknowledge it, though, right?", I responded.

"No, I just—what the fu—HEY!" John looked like he was too stunned for words, his face flushed a light pink tint.

"You're not really a hard ass like you think you are, baby. You're way better than that, don't worry, it's a good thing.", I chuckled.

"God dammit, I just...I didn't mean. Listen, I—" now he was emotionally confused. He covered his face in embarrassment. "I love you, John Richard Deacon.", I cooed, I gave him another big kiss on his cheek. "I love you too...", he replied in a muffled tone.

-John's POV-

God dammit! Really just goddammit! I said too much about this whole ordeal, Freddie thinks I've just matured all of a sudden. I can't really agree to it because I just simply refuse to believe I'm mature. Moving on from alcoholic addiction is like moving on from an ex boyfriend or girlfriend. It takes a lot of courage to say no to it. That part just really stings me. I don't even know why I have doubts about being a mature young man who's being respectful to their partner.

But maybe he's right about it, maybe I have grown mature because I love him. He's the reason I got out of this mess, and I'd still be in it if I weren't in a relationship with him. I couldn't thank him enough for being supportive of me throughout my recovery.

Luckily he was still hugging me and I didn't move a muscle. "Freddie?", I muffled. "Yes, darling?", he asked. I uncovered my face.

"Freddie I just really want to say...thank you. I appreciate you so much for supporting me throughout this journey so far. Without you I'd still be in that bind, but I'm glad I have you, you've helped me break free from it." I could see his eyes tear up, he had the biggest smile ever.

"Oh, my baby, that makes my heart so happy! Words can't describe how glad I am to be yours.", he stifled. He pulled me in for a kiss on the lips. "I love you. Truly. You've come so far, and you've acknowledged a boundary set in stone. There shall be no more anything regarding alcohol. You are done with it, and you are sober. You have been changed for good."

As much as I wanted to choke myself out, I just happened to repeat it for some odd reason, "There shall be no more anything regarding alcohol. I am done with it and I am sober. I have been changed for good." "That's what I'm talking about! Now come on, let me whip you up the best non alcoholic mojito you've ever had!", Freddie chanted. "Oh alrighty then.", I simply reply.

Just enjoy it, I'd say myself, you can wash your mouth out with soap later. As dangerous as that is, it's worth just licking it instead. Why would I do that, I ask myself, because you're crazy enough to do it that's why!
