The drive only took 20 minutes but during that time Kirishima talked your ear off, giving you ideas, telling you all about his agency, how it was built from the ground up to support heroes that don't get a second look, that get ignored and seen as someone less cool because their quirks aren't as big and special.

It made your heart full. Hearing all the good things about his agency and hearing how great he's been doing with all of his work. It only made you that more excited to join. To be somewhere you belong without the weight of the past trauma that overtakes your mind constantly.

Although you did feel bad to reject Todoroki's offer, it was for the best and you knew you wouldn't fit in there. You also knew that being at an agency with someone from your past would cause a lot of problems, for you, for Bakugou and for your relationship and that was something you did not want to deal with.

As the car rolled to a stop in front of the fancy looking building, you let out a soft huff as you took the seatbelt off with a light click.

"Thank you, Eijiro.. for everything." You spoke as you swung the door open.

"No need to thank me. Just please remember, you're not alone in this.. ever. You can ignore me for ten years and I'll still be waiting." He said jokingly, watching you get out of the car and give him a grin.

"I'll see you later." You gave him a small wave, gently shutting his door and taking slow steps to the front door of the office.

The lab felt colder than usual.

You sat on the padded examination bench, hands clasped tightly in your lap as you tried to ignore the sterile hum of machines and the faint buzz of electricity in the walls. Everything in this place felt too clean, too sharp, like one wrong move might cut you open.

The female scientists you've seen countless times stood at her console, eyes darting across the readings on her tablet, lips pressed into a tight line. She wasn't speaking, and that silence was starting to stretch too long.

"You're making that face again.. the one before you told me about my quirks fusing together." You finally said, the uneasiness in your tone. She didn't answer immediately. Just tapped a few more times on the screen, then finally turned to face you.

"We've confirmed it," she said calmly.

"The fusion seems to be almost complete. Your lava and decay quirks are no longer functioning as two separate entities. They've about merged into a singular, evolving quirk." You nodded stiffly.

That part wasn't a shock. You'd felt the change in your body, in your bones, your blood, the way your power felt when you used it. Plus, they did tell you this outcome last time. They warned you about them fusing, about one taking over the other and possibly wiping the other out.

But even though you knew, you couldn't help the sting that consumed your chest at the realization of this news. At the fact that the fusion is pretty much complete and the two dangerous quirks are now one extremely powerful quirk.

"So, what's wrong?" You could sense something else, something she wasn't telling you. And she hesitated, which was worse than any answer.

"We did a full neural scan just to monitor long-term effects.. since the decay quirk isn't yours to begin with." She began slowly.

"And... the decay element is starting to interact with your central nervous system in unpredictable ways." Your heart sank further if that was possible.

"How bad is it?" Was your first question that slipped out of your mouth.

"It's subtle. For now," she said, pushing the glasses up her nose as she stepped closer to you with her tablet and showed you some scans.
