Days had turned into weeks as the steady feel of spring rolled into the air. The small garden in the backyard had grown into something bigger than what you imagined and at first everything felt.. calm, peaceful, quiet, and right.
You spent all of your time at home, the occasional visits from Bakugou's parents and some of the people he doesn't want to call his 'friends' but it was mostly Kirishima visiting anyway.
After everything that had happened, you were too embarrassed to bother with anything anymore. You no longer wanted to be a hero or even bother with your quirk at all. You never used it, you simply acted like it didn't exist.
Even though you had fought to get your quirk back, you were at a point where, did you really need it? Did you really have to go through all that trauma for a stupid quirk? Within these weeks of winter melting away and spring rolling in, you did a lot of self-reflection and self-healing.
While Bakugou worked, you stayed in here finding ways to better yourself. You went back to therapy, you found other therapies like painting, gardening, baking and even having his mom teach you how to cook full meals just to have someone to spend some quality time with as his schedule grew more busy and complicated. It helped you build a more solid relationship with Mitsuki though.
Before you only ever talked to her on occasion. She never pushed for you to talk to her or be around his family especially when she knew how hard you had it already. She was patient and now that you constantly texted her, inviting her to come over, she would rush over in a heartbeat.
You were definitely the daughter she always wanted.
And when Bakugou would drive home after a long day, he would see his mom's car and grumble under his breath about her always being here even though deep down it made his heart swell just a little. He would walk in and see the two of you on the couch, laughing, watching movies and eating the brownies you both made a mess to make.
"It's like you live here or something. I didn't buy this house for you, you old hag." He muttered as his mom hugged onto him so tight that it almost took his breath away then she would pull away and slap the back of his head in response.
Then slowly, the schedule started to shift even more if that was possible. Bakugou had patrols almost every day. His hours started to change completely. At first it was just one extra shift. Then two. Then he was leaving before sunrise, returning long after you had fallen asleep on the couch waiting.
He still kissed you goodbye every morning— forehead, lips, the bridge of your nose, but the moments between you grew shorter. He'd come home exhausted, sometimes too tired to even eat. You would sit beside him on the couch while he half-dozed, his hand finding yours out of habit.
You never complained. You knew what the job meant to him. But every time you caught his shadow leaving the doorway, something in your chest ached, a quiet, irrational fear that the peace you had fought for was only temporary.
One evening, rain drummed against the windows while you waited for him. The house smelled like stew and lavender. The clock ticked past midnight. His last message had been hours ago — "Finishing up. Don't wait."
But you waited anyway.
The closer it got to midnight, the more worried you became until you heard the locks clicked and the door swung open, revealing the damp blonde hair and the dirty hero suit, he was still wearing, clinging to his skin. You quickly stood, meeting him at the door as he kicked off his boots.
"Hi." You muttered, leaning up to plant a quick kiss to his lips.
"Hey.. I told you not to wait up." He gave you a small smirk, giving you another kiss as he saw the tiredness in your eyes.
