taraji h.
the city lights smeared past the window, colors bleeding together through my hazy eyes. smoke still clung to my fingers, my tongue heavy with the taste of henny. i leaned back in the seat, one legs stretched out, nails tapping against the leather. driver looked at me through the mirror, waiting on directions.
"take me to tasia" i mumbled, hitting my blunt.
when we pulled up, i pulled my phone out, dialed her number, and leaned my head back as it rang. i was high and a lil tipsy.
she picked up, voice groggy. "hello?"
"come outside," i said flat, no explanation.
"t? it's almost two in the—"
"just... come outside." was all i said before ending the call.
i watched the door. couple minutes later, she stepped out with her robe tied loose, slippers dragging, her little hair wrapped up. confusion all over her face. she walked slow toward the suv, arms crossed.
driver rolled the window down. "she's here."
i cracked a lazy smile. "i know. step out for a minute."
he gave me a look and nodded, getting out and closing the door behind him.
i opened the door and tasia slid in, pulling the robe tighter as she sat next to me. the scent of her lotion hit me first. her favorite.
"what's going on?" she asked softly, eyes searching mine.
i just leaned back, gaze heavy on her, lips parted like i had a secret i wasn't ready to share. my hand dragged slow across my thigh before i looked at her directly.
"nothing. i just wanted to see yo beautiful face."
she frowned. "you don't ever pop up at two in the morning unless something's wrong. what happened?"
i let out a low laugh, leaning closer, so close she could feel the heat of my breath. "don't worry about it."
her eyes narrowed, but i could see the way her chest rose, her breathing uneven. the robe slipped just a little at the collar, and my fingers twitched.
"t..."
"just sit here with me. that's all i need tonight."
"my son is asle–"
"our" i cut in. "our son is asleep." my words slurred, but she heard me clearly.
"yeah, our. can you tell me what's going on now? actually, aren't you supposed to be on your little date?"
i felt myself getting upset all over again. "ion wanna talk about that."
"what do you wanna talk about at two in the morning, taraji?"
"you. me. us."
"last time i checked there was no us. you've moved on and now you're ha–"
before she could even finish i put my blunt down and sgrabbed her chin, looking her directly in the eyes.
"i'm never gon be happy until i earn you back."
"but you said-"
"i won't be happy until i earn you back. that's what i said."
"so that failed and now you all of a sudden wanna earn me back? im not that easy for you anymore."
"good. i wouldn't expect you to be as easy considering how shit went when you was at one point. i wanna just.. earn yo trust. if it takes time then im willing to wait however long. i cant be happy with nobody else.. when i try it fails everytime."
