Elsa and Jack stood beside Nick's hospital bed, Elsa feeling terrible as she clung to Jacks side not wanting to let go. "I'm so sorry Nick." She spoke.

Nick "Elsa, it wasn't you who shot me." He explained.

Elsa "I know but, I should have helped you sooner if I had known how badly injured you were I would have gotten help right away." She replied.

Nick "You don't need to worry, I'm fine. You saved me and I thank you for that." he smiled reassuring her.

Jack squeezed Elsa's hand gently, offering silent support. The beeping machines around them seemed to fade into the background as the weight of relief settled in the room. Elsa blinked back tears, grateful for Nick's forgiveness and for Jack's steady presence by her side.

Elsa "I still feel like I should've done more." she shovelled her feet on the floor.

Nick reached out, placing a reassuring hand over hers. "You did everything you could, Elsa. None of this is your fault, so stop blaming yourself." he said softly. The sincerity in his voice made Elsa's chest tighten, but a small measure of comfort seeped in as she glanced at Jack, who nodded in agreement, silently telling her to believe Nick's words.

Jack leaned in, his voice gentle but firm. "You did what anyone would hope for in anyone, Elsa. None of this is your fault." He gave her a reassuring look, trying to ease the guilt that weighed on her shoulders. Nick nodded in agreement, his expression earnest as he added, "Honestly, if it weren't for you, things could have been much worse. I owe you both."

For a long moment, the three of them sat in quiet reflection, the hum of the hospital ward enveloping them in a fragile sense of safety. Elsa drew in a shaky breath, feeling the tension in her shoulders begin to ease at last. "Thank you, both of you," she whispered, voice thick with emotion. "I don't know what I would have done if I lost you." Her words hung in the air, raw and honest, echoing the relief and gratitude that filled the room.

Nick gave a soft laugh, the sound easing some of the heaviness lingering between them. "Well, I'm still here, aren't I? And I intend to stick around for quite a while yet." He tried to lighten the mood, his eyes sparkling just a little. Elsa managed a watery smile, the corners of her mouth turning up as she squeezed his hand in return.

Jack picked up on Nick's attempt to lighten the mood and flashed a crooked grin. "Besides," he chuckled, nudging Elsa gently, "someone's got to stick around to walk you down the aisle one day. So, Nick, that's another reason you're not allowed to check out early." His words hung between them, playful and comforting, coaxing a genuine laugh from Elsa and a sheepish smile from Nick as the tension in the room eased a little more.

Jack's words lingered in the air, and then, picking up on his own earlier remark about walking Elsa down the aisle, he grinned and nudged her gently. Elsa flushed a delicate pink, warmth creeping into her cheeks as she glanced down, embarrassed but secretly delighted at the thought. Nick caught the exchange and couldn't help but laugh, the sound light and genuine, further easing the heaviness in the room. Even Jack couldn't resist a smile, pleased to see his Agents' spirits lifting at last.

For a moment, Elsa and Jack stood together by Nick's bedside, letting the laughter settle into a contented hush. Sunlight streamed in through the window, casting gentle patterns across the crisp hospital sheets and reminding them all that life moved stubbornly onwards, even in the wake of hardship. Outside, the muted sounds of the city seemed distant, almost irrelevant, as if for now, nothing else mattered but this small circle of comfort and understanding.
