The shadow of the child didn't dissipate. Instead, the black ichor from the "slash" began to crawl across the floor of the memory like living ink, knitting itself back together.
"The Bronya notes a spatial distortion," Bronya said, her Project Bunny 19C manifesting behind her with its shields raised. "This isn't a passive memory playback. This is a cognitive trap."
"No shit sherlock," Shiro muttered, his dual-toned voice vibrating with a metallic edge. He didn't relax his stance. His violet eyes scanned the periphery where the "shadows" of the other disciples—Su Mei and the others—were beginning to flicker and elongate, their faces melting into featureless white masks.
"Wait, look!" Kiana pointed toward the trail.
The memory of Fu Hua was still walking, oblivious to the monsters manifesting behind her. But as she moved, the lush greenery of Mt. Taixuan began to wither. The maple leaves turned to ash, and the sky bled into a bruised, sickly purple.
"Master... she won't look at us," the shadow of Qin Suyi whispered, her voice now a chorus of a thousand distorted cries. "She only looks at the world. So we have to break the world to make her see."
"I had enough of this!" Remnants colours of the chaos flames manifested from the tachi then swung forward creating a projectile that obliterated the shadows.
"Subject Shiro, The Bronya requests to stay rational and calm in order to sort this out." After verifying their surroundings, the cost is now clear and Bronya disengaged her weapon.
"Can't help it, pests like them will try to surround and corrupt us, the flat-chested class rep mindscape ain't stable." The alternative persona spoke up and thought of how much suffering did the phoenix have to endure for thousands of years.
Kiana stay quiet and holstered her pistols and was about to ask of why they were suddenly attacked. "This memory segment seems to be an anomaly." Bronya explained though she put another question behind of how did the shadows managed to see them as there is an elephant in the room that is need to be addressed.
"She just said that the disciples are going to kill their master." Kiana then turned to Shiro and then it all clicked. "This must be the night 500 years ago when the Seven Swords of Taixuan killed Fu Hua!"
Bronya felt feather in her pocket glowing. "Is the feather asking us... to change history and rescue the class monitor?"
Shiro replied while shaking his head. "That may be, but let's face reality, you cannot change history, and besides this is just a memory, any of our actions will not affect of what already happened at the timeline, this is all just a recreation to mess up our head." He explained although he wanted to avoid the negativity he still needs to set their heads right and get on with the game.
"Be that as it may. We are still doing this. Let's keep up with them." Kiana replied and chased the phoenix followed by Bronya as Shiro sighed. "The things I do for love."
