Canada beat Denmark eight to nothing in the quarter final game. They were going to the semi final game. Everyone was ecstatic in the suite.
Dylan felt so happy to even be there and be a part of it. He was the first person Connor hugged when he came out of the change room. Connor was muttering things about it all being theirs next year. He meant the two of them. It was Dylan's dream to make the world junior team. He patted Connor's back before Connor went over to his family.
"Hey!" Connor hollered over to Allison. She nodded at him. "Do I get a hug for my three points?"
She rolled her eyes. "Of course you do." She said, hugging him. "But only for those three points. Anything less and you get nothing."
Connor hugged Kara too. They started talking with Dylan. Allison stepped away from the group when she saw Sam walk out. Kara could see how Allison was beaming.
Sam went over to his parents first. He patted his dad on the shoulder and jogged over to Allison. He was smiling just as wide as her. He lifted her in a hug, spinning her around the waiting area. Kara could see Connor fighting to not glance. She noticed him tense up.
"Hey, let's head to the restaurant." Cam interrupted, patting Connor's shoulder. So he had noticed too. "Good game out there, punk."
Allison and Sam were hand in hand for the rest of the time being. Kara kept looking over at Connor. Allison had noticed.
It wasn't Allison's job to make sure Connor was okay. He made his choice before. Allison had moved on and it wasn't her problem if Connor couldn't. She didn't care how Connor felt. That's what she always told herself.
But she couldn't help but feel bad when she caught Connor's eyes now and again. Maybe she didn't need to hold onto Sam's hand the entire time.
She was also not supposed to care what his family thought of her anymore. If they thought any less of her for moving on from their son to his team Canada teammate, she didn't care. She wasn't cheating. She was the one hurting still, if she had to be honest. She was the one cheated on. She knew they didn't know that part of the story. Connor probably made the break up all her fault. She shouldn't care though.
That's why she was so nervous when Cam signalled for her to go talk with him. Because she didn't care.
She excused herself from Sam's side. He kissed her cheek then turned back to his conversation. She walked over to Cam. He linked arms with her and led her into the Toronto night.
She had a hockey Canada sweater on, as well as a toque, and mitts. She didn't have her coat but she could handle it. They stood in silence at first. She didn't want to speak. She felt sick.
"Con's really upset." Cam finally spoke.
"Good. We have something in common." She snickered.
"So he dumped you?"
"No, I dumped him." She sighed.
"Then why are you upset?" He asked, confused.
"I can't really talk about it, Cam. He asked me not to." She said, not bothering to look at him.
"He won't tell me what happened either." He growled. "What happened, Al? Just tell me."
"No, I don't even want to think about it. I've moved on." She argued.
"Have you really or are you trying to get back at Connor?" He questioned.
She spun around. "I like Sam. Not everything I do is to spite your brother."
"Admit that it originally was, though." Cam crossed his arms.
"It was. But it was really nice to finally have a guy treat me right. The way Sam's treated me." She spat.
"I'm not gonna argue that Connor's an amazing guy, I don't know what your relationship was like." Cam put his hands up in defence. "I'm just being a good older brother and talking to you. I'm trying to understand what hap-"
"He cheated on Lauren with me and then cheated on me with Lauren, okay?" Allison choked out.
Cam's face fell. "Al," He reached out for her.
"Just, don't." She swallowed, holding in her tears as she pulled back. "I'm gonna go back inside now. I'm getting cold."
She took a deep breath as she walked back inside. She spotted Connor staring over at her. She felt bad. She didn't mean to tell Cam, she just did. She gave Connor an apologetic look. Cam squeezed her shoulder as he walked past her and over to Connor.
She could tell they were bickering. Cam finished his piece and walked off. Connor glared over at Allison. She felt even worse. He just shook his head and walked out.
"Hey." Kara caught her attention. "Woah, are you tearing?"
"Yeah, I have cramps. I'm gonna go say goodnight to Sam and then head upstairs to bed." She lied. "Are you going to Dyl's or-"
"I'll text you my plan. Are you sure you're o-"
"Perfectly fine, I just need to lay down." Allison smiled, walking over to Sam. He smiled at her. "Hey, I think I'm gonna head to bed."
"What? Really?" He frowned. "You alright?" He asked, rubbing her back.
"You know, just cramping." She told him. "I'm gonna go now."
"I'll come with you." He offered, stopping her.
"Don't waste your n-"
"No, I want to." He squeezed her hand.
She just smiled. They went up to her room and laid in her bed. Kara came to the hotel alone and went straight to bed. Max texted Sam saying coach would flip if he wasn't in the room for head count.
Sam and Allison ran to his room. They were laughing as they did. Max told them to behave while she was over. And they did. Max went out with his girlfriend for a bit and Sam and Allison just cuddled in bed.
"So since cramps were your cover up, what was really wrong?" Sam called her out.
She sighed. "I really don't like you." She huffed, sitting up. "I'm just still really pissed about what Connor did to me, and his brother was prying about what happened to us and I cracked and told him, and it just made me really up-"
Sam cut her off by kissing her. "What Connor did is a coward move. You deserve a lot better than that." He said, holding her face.
She smiled and kissed him again.
