Present Day
"I need to get in there."
"I'm sorry, there's too many people..."
"No, You don't understand. I need to get in there. I need to see her."
"I'm sorry sir, but.."
"It's not sir. It's Agent. I am SSA Derek Morgan. And I am the acting Unit Chief. I need to get in there and see my..." his breath catches. He doesn't know what to call her. "It's just really important I get to my people."
The older nurse frowns. "Let me see what I can do." she mumbles as she walks away.
Morgan paces back and forth. He got the call 30 minutes ago. He didn't even bother to stop at the scene of the crime. He just came straight here. Spencer had showed up, but he hadn't said much to him. Morgan was sure he must seem like a lunatic.
"Morgan!" Hotch calls out. Morgan rubs his jaw. Hotch pushes through the crowd of people in the hospital lobby.
"What do we know?" Hotch asks.
"A bomb exploded in the FBI parking garage. They're saying 12 injured, 2 of those being critical. Rossi and Prentiss are looking over the scene now." Spencer pipes in. He'd been standing behind Morgan trying to stay out of the way.
"All agents?"
"No, a few were agents but it hit the 6th floor of the parking garage which is reserved mostly for our secretarial and clerical staff including..." Spencer trailed off.
Hotch's eyes widened. "Including....?"
"Including Y/N." Morgan says.
Morgan looked up from his desk. He was still adjusting to being the acting unit chief. Hotch was standing there with a pretty girl who he was sure he'd never seen before.
"Morgan, this is Y/N L/N. As the acting chief, she's your administrative assistant."
Morgan frowned. "What happened to Jean?"
"Jean retired 3 weeks ago. Her daughter had the twin baby girls, so she moved to Florida to be closer to them." Y/N said as if it was obvious.
Morgan blinked. Y/N stared back at him.
"But don't worry the BAU sent a lovely baby gift and thoughtful card about how much her actions never went unnoticed by this team." Y/N smiled earnestly.
Hotch let out a cough that sounded suspiciously like a chuckle. "I'll leave you to it." he said as he walked away.
Once Hotch was out of sight, Morgan snapped. "I liked Jean. You could count on Jean."
Y/N smiled. "You'll like me. I was trained by Jean. And trust me - I'm good."
"You're good?" Morgan said incredulously. "That's your selling point?"
Y/N put down a stack of files. "These are your quarterly reports. I summarized and consolidated the information down to the cover sheet. This line item right here is where you would have owed the Portland Police $40,000 for a new vehicle after crashing theirs into an oak tree."
"That was unavoidable." Morgan said with a crossing of his arms.
"So was this bill until I was able to talk to them on the phone and negotiate down. They didn't like you by the way. That much was obvious."
Morgan bit his lip and chuffed.
"But they did negotiate with me. They excused the car damage, as long as the FBI made a generous donation to their local elections and helped support their Sheriff."
