This is like the same Original character as last time - Hotch's fake wife that he married to give her witness protection and she helps with Jack. She's hiding from her mafia ex-husband.

Trigger Warning: Abusive ex's mentioned

I wasn't one to overreact or panic. I knew Hotch's work schedule was unpredictable. He got called to solve cases around the country at the drop of a hat. But he had called me an hour ago saying he was back at the field office and was coming home.

He didn't say much about cases immediately after, but I could usually guess how they went or were going based on his body language and the way he spoke on the phone or how often he asked to talk to Jack.

This time he'd been gone 5 days. After more than 3 days away, he usually pushed paperwork to the following morning and came straight home to see us. Well...see Jack. I was just a lucky benefactor.

Our fake marriage was getting more complicated by the day. He was slowly becoming my best friend.

From falling asleep on the couch next to each other to laughing so hard with Jack our sides hurt, it was starting to feel like I belonged here.

Belonged with him.

But I knew he wasn't in the same boat.  His ex-wife died only 2 years ago. He was drowning in unsorted emotions. He was always so serious. It was hard to know what he was thinking.

But I swear he seemed nervous on my birthday three weeks ago. A new emotion for me to see from the confident, stoic man I was used to.

When he presented me with a silver bangle bracelet, I was shocked. I loved it of course. I hadn't taken it off since he gave it to me.

"Aaron Hotchner, you have good taste." I teased. His cheeks burned red which only made me laugh harder.

I loved spending time with him and Jack. I guess that's why I was antsy for him to get home.

"Y/N. Will you tuck me in?" Jack's little voice brought me back to reality.

"Of course buddy."

I glanced at the clock again. 8:42 pm

Where was Hotch? What was taking so long?

After tucking Jack into bed and reading him another chapter from his favorite series: Magic Tree House, he fell straight asleep.

I moved to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of wine. I ran my hand through my hair.

9:06 pm

At what point do I call? Does that make me needy? Overbearing? It's just...so...

The front door clicks open. I spin and see him.

He's still in a neat suit. He's standing straight despite the look on his face that reads as pure exhaustion. He drops his go-bag by the door.

"Hey." I say softly.

"Hey." He responds. I felt like he was taking me in.

I realize I'm in leggings and a tank top. Definitely not worthy of standing next to his business attire. My hair is probably a mess from running my hands thru it so many times.

"I was starting to get worried." I say crossing my arms over what now feels like my exposing pajamas.

"I'm sorry...I just.." He pinches the bridge of his nose and walks towards me.

"No! No, don't apologize. I'm just glad you're home. I saved you some dinner if you're hungry."

He looks at me in disbelief. "You didn't have to do that." I shrug. "Figured you might need a pick-me up."
