Mafia AU: The Starks and the Lannisters had been at war with each other forever, until they married their kids off together to solidify a peace treaty.

I curl deeper into the soft knit blankets that were laid over my comforter. It had been such a cold winter.

I was lucky both Jaime's and my families had so much money and were willing to pay for good gas heating in our house.

I still couldn't believe we were married. It had been 6 months into our arrangement.

As far as arranged marriages went, this one wasn't half bad. Jaime and I had definitely started up a friendship, made easy by his constant flirting.

He always put me at ease with his charm and wit.

Although he hadn't been his usual chipper and flirty self at dinner.

"You alright" I had asked as I watched him push food around the plate.

He shrugged. "Just tired."

"Work stress?" I pressed. "Yeah a bit, but I'm fine."

"You sure?"

He hesitates before saying "I'm sure" in a clipped voice.

"Well it's just that..."

"I'm going to watch some TV before bed." and he walked away, leaving most of his dinner behind.

Jaime was never rude to me. Never.

Something was definitely off today, but I just assumed something dark and scary happened and he wanted to keep me out of it.

After all I did always say I hated how my family ran their side of the mafia business.

I roll over and find Jaime still isn't in bed with me.

We had been back and forth about sharing a bed. Sometimes he still sleeps on the couch in the living room. He claims he loves it.

But when winter started, and the house got cold, he started climbing into bed with me. We always just snuggled.

I know he didn't want to rush me, but I was definitely ready for a more real relationship with him. I just hadn't figured out how to tell him.

I also didn't want to pressure him. As lighthearted as he may seem, I knew he didn't trust easy. His family was proof of that.

My sheep dog, Lux comes barreling into the bedroom. It startled me as Lux never made noise. She was a quiet and gentle dog.

Lux then jumps on the bed and nudged me with her nose. "Lux, what the hell?" She wouldn't stop, so I sat up and turned the bedside table lamp on.

"Hey, it's okay." I whisper trying to calm her down.

I guess I wasn't moving fast enough for her because she opened her mouth and even though she wasn't biting hard - she wrapped her teeth around my arm and pulled at me.

I had never seen this kind of behavior from her. I stood up from the bed. "What is it, girl? You show me."

Lux trotted out of the room and I followed, thinking I must be going crazy talking to my dog like this.

Lux ran all the way to the couch where Jaime lay. The dog turned to look at me expectantly. I didn't understand - Jaime was asleep.

I moved closer to him, sitting on the edge of the couch. Although the lights were off, moonlight was streaming in through the curtains. I reached out to trace my fingers over his face, but his bangs were stuck to him. They were damp as if they'd been lightly showered...or covered in sweat.
