Stubborn - Aaron Hotchner (CM)

This is loosely inspired by an episode of Scandal..iykyk :)

"You did what?!?!?" I exclaim in utter surprise and horror.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know what else to do!" JJ says wringing her hands together.

"Saying Hotch was awake and talking was all you could come up with?" Morgan criticizes.

Two days ago we were working on a case in Virginia. We profiled that the unsub wouldn't want to be cornered or would act rashly if he was. Still we had to chase him down. Hotch and Rossi caught up to him, and the unsub ended up shooting Hotch.

It was a bad shooting. It came really close to Hotch's heart - one of his lungs collapsed. We've all been in the hospital with him ever since. He hasn't woken up from surgery. He still isn't breathing on his own.

"Strauss said if she didn't get confirmation Hotch was able to lead the team she would come to lead us herself. You know she wants budget cuts, I didn't want her to come down and force one or more of us out. Especially Hotch - she's wanted him gone for a while."

"We know why you did it JJ." Emily says calmly.

"Do we?" Morgan snaps.

"The problem is how are we gonna keep this lie up. Hotch isn't even awake yet, and when he does wake up he's going to need to take it easy." I point out.

"If we come clean now, Strauss will revoke Hotch's position as unit chief and JJ will likely face repercussions for lying." Morgan says, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"We have cover this up. This is going to have to be the biggest ruse we've ever pulled." Reid chirps in.

"Rossi, what do you think?" Emily says. He'd been quiet since the shooting. Likely blaming himself. He just nods solemnly "He saved my life. Let's save his job."

We split up into groups.

JJ and Rossi were going to drive over to the bureau to pick up some things from his office. They were going to draw attention to how he wanted to look over some paper files while he stayed in the hospital. They were also going to ask Anderson to let one of us know if it looks like Strauss may be coming to the hospital.

Spencer and Morgan were going to his house to talk to his sister-in-law and Jack and give them an update on this complicated situation.

Garcia was hacking into Hotch's account so that Emily and I could do the last few reports he hadn't done. It was the quietest of the jobs and allowed us to stay in the hospital with him. That was the only place I wanted to be.

Hotch is one of my best friends. Despite being my superior, I always felt like he respected me. He had always given me a safe place to land. We had grown closer these last few months. I helped him out with Jack whenever I could. If I was being honest with myself - I think I had stronger feelings for him than I should.

I felt like my heart stopped beating when he was shot.

I rushed over the forest hill to meet them. Rossi was shaking, he was propping Hotch up in his lap.
I knelt over Hotch, packing his wound until the paramedics came. There was so much blood.

He was so calm, but I could hear him struggling to breathe....

"Aaron, you're going to be fine. Okay don't panic." I said.

Our eyes met.
He parted his lips as if he was going to say something.... "Y/N."
