I pulled my luggage'sbehind me as I walked out of JFK and onto the street with my bodyguard, Marty, so I could head to my hotel. I was here to meet with Vogue for an interview and photo-shoot for their May cover story.
It was quite breezy for a March morning, so I was pretty happy with myself for wearing a sweater. The paparazzi were everywhere, this was one of the spots they always waited, because of how many celebrates came and went daily from JFK. I pulled my glasses down from the top of my head to shield my blue eyes, not from the sun, but from the paps camera flashes. I sighed and walked quickly next to Marty as he led me to a waiting SUV, I hopped in and Marty loaded the luggage into the trunk for me before jumping into the seat next to me.
I let out the breath I had been holding and smiled as we started driving.
"How do you feel about New York?" I asked looking over to Marty.
He continued typing on his iPhone and shrugged, "It's alright, I suppose. We've been here a few times, so it's whatever," he locked his phone and put it on the seat between us, "Why do you ask?" he asked turning his head to look at me.
I shrugged and looked out the window, "I was thinking about a move."
"You wanna move out here?" he asked with a semi-shocked tone.
I looked over to him with a small smile, "It's just a thought, nothing concrete."
He smiled and poked my shoulder, "Would you be moving out here for someone?"
I shook my head and laughed, "No. Not for anyone. Just a change of location. I've never really spent a whole lot of time out here; I thought it would be interesting. My family is a hell of a lot closer to New York than L.A obviously. It would be nice to experience, you know, seasons again."
"That is true," he said with a nod.
"Would Julie and Nixon have to move out to New York?" I asked him, about his wife and son.
He took a sharp intake of breath and paused before answering, "Maybe. Honestly, Julie and I are having some problems at the moment, so I'm not sure what would happen."
Instantly I felt terrible, "Oh shit. Marty, I'm sorry, I didn't know."
He shrugged, but he had a frown on his face, "That's life, Mags. Shit happens," his phone started singing before I could respond.
He looked at me apologetically before answering it, "Hey, Jules," he said quietly.
I looked out the window again at the passing cars and buildings. New York just seemed so busy. Not that L.A wasn't, but...people call this place the city that never sleeps for a reason. I was used to my quiet neighbourhood in L.A and no one was really ever around that much, I felt like I wouldn't find a little community to go to.
I sighed and reached for my purse to turn my phone on. I waited a minute for it to load back up texts, e-mails, voicemails and missed calls began popping up. I scanned through them and responded to ones that needed my attention right away, ones from Allie, who would be joining me the next day in New York, my mom had texted me a couple times (she had just gotten an IPhone and learned how to use the emojis), a few from friends and one from Jimmy. I smiled and clicked on his.
