Just before 12:00pm we loaded up Jimmy's SUV with the girls and started the 2 hour drive to the Hamptons to see the house Jimmy would be buying. Franny fell asleep before we were 10 minutes into the drive; Winnie stayed awake for a while and talked to us. Jimmy was telling her jokes and singing songs to her, making both me and Winnie laugh. Winnie fell asleep about an hour into the ride.
Jimmy and I stayed quiet for the most part, not wanting to wake the girls up. We had the music playing loud enough so we could hear it; I had my phone out and was responding to Allie's e-mails. Monday night I sent Allie an e-mail about possibly taking some time off after filming in May. She sent me back a long e-mail with the pros and cons, but at the end of it she told me it was my decision. But since nothing was concrete, she was still sending me scripts and information about auditions.
"Well, if you decided to take the year off, maybe you go through the scripts she sends and if something really speaks to you, then that's something to consider," Jimmy told me when I read a movie outline that Allie had sent me from Universal.
I sighed and quickly typed in a response, "Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad idea. Do more passion projects."
"Exactly!" he said with a smile.
I locked my phone and put it in the cup holder, "I'm gonna book a flight to Virginia for June. I'll stay there for a bit to see everyone, spend time in my house that I never go to."
"That sounds like a great idea," he said turning off of the highway.
I took a deep breath, "Jimmy...I want you to come with me when I go and see everyone. I want you to meet them," I said letting the air out after I finished talking.
I looked over at him and saw him smiling, he glanced at me quickly, "Of course I'll go with you, Maggie! Did you think I would say no?"
I smiled and shrugged, "I don't know."
"Hey," he said taking my hand, making me look over at him, "I want to meet everyone in your family. Really. And...I was planning on asking you to come up to see my parents and sister with me too, if you wanted to?" he said watching the road, but taking quick second long looks at me out of the corner of his eye.
"I'd like that," I told him quietly.
He smiled; I leaned back in my seat and held onto his hand. It was becoming really serious and I liked that. I liked the fact that we were talking about meeting the families, and I liked the fact that he was taking me to see a house he wanted to buy with his daughters. That meant so much to me. I looked behind me and saw Winnie sleeping, and there was a baby mirror facing Franny in her car seat so I saw her sleeping soundly too. I had known the girls for just a few hours, but they had already started to mean so much to me.
Not that I would ever say I was trying to take over Nancy's position as their mother, I would never in a million years even consider that. But I knew people would make that assumption, I wasn't stupid. That was going to be something we would have to eventually deal with. But for the time being...it felt like I had filled a void in myself I didn't even know was there.
"This is it!" Jimmy whispered yelled.
I smiled and looked up at the driveway leading up to the massive house in front of us. A black Mercedes was waiting there with a gentleman leaning against it; he looked up when he heard us driving up.
Jimmy parked the car and got out, I unbuckled and followed suit, opening the backdoor up and unhooking Franny from her car seat, her eyes opened slowly when I picked her up and closed the door, walking around the SUV to meet Jimmy and Winnie. I had Franny sitting on my hip while she babbled away at nothingness. When Winnie saw me she put her little arms out and started whining, she started squirming in Jimmy's arms.
"Switch?" I offered as Jimmy changed the position he was holding Winnie.
He nodded and took Franny out of my grasp and replaced her with Winnie, who smiled up at me and laughed. I laughed back down at her.
We walked over to the real estate agent, who smiled at the two of us.
"Hey, Jimmy!" he said reaching out to shake his unoccupied right hand.
Jimmy smiled back and shook his hand quickly, "Hey, Bryan, what's up?"
Bryan shook his head, "Not much, man. Hi, I'm Bryan; it's nice to meet you, Miss. Atwood. Jimmy said you'd be coming up with him and the girls."
I smiled and took his outstretched hand to shake, "Hey, please call me Maggie. And yeah! I'm really excited to see the house!"
"Great!" he smiled and turned and started walking to the front door, he opened it and went in followed by Jimmy then myself.
It was stunning. It was open concept, so I could see into the backyard from the front door. Hardwood floor throughout and tiling in the kitchen. Bryan was talking to Jimmy and Jimmy was looking around with a big smile on his face. He looked back to me and raised his eyebrows, I smiled and nodded.
Winnie started to squirm a little more, so I put her on the floor to let her walk around while I stayed beside her. She held her little hand up to me so I could hold it as she walked around. I reached down and took her hand and walked throughout the house with her. I was hardly paying attention to what the two guys were talking about. I was focusing on the little girl holding my hand, and how happy I was that she really seemed to like me. When Franny would see us I would smile at her and she would try and wiggle away from Jimmy, but he kept her in his arms.
Winnie was talking, only being able to fully say a few words here and there. She knew exactly what she was talking about, but she just couldn't get the words fully out yet.
"So! What do you think?" Bryan asked Jimmy after we toured the house and ended up back in the kitchen.
Jimmy looked at me and smiled, "I loved it! It's so amazing! What did you think, Maggie?"
I smiled back at him, "I really like it! But it's your decision, Jimmy. Whatever you want to do."
His smile seemed to grow and he turned to Bryan, "I want it," he said simply, making me laugh.
I picked Winnie up and sat her on the countertop of the island, standing in front of her to make sure she wouldn't fall off. Bryan was explaining some things to Jimmy, and going over the papers. Jimmy took the pen from Bryan and signed off where he needed to.
They shook hands when he finished signing and Bryan escorted us out.
"I should get back to you no later than Tuesday afternoon. But don't worry, this place is as good as yours, Jimmy," Bryan said as he locked up behind us.
Jimmy smiled as they shook hands, Bryan came over to me and shook my hand as well, "Nice meeting you, Maggie!" he told me.
"Nice meeting you too," I smiled.
Jimmy and I walked over to his SUV and buckled the girls into their seats and then got in.
"Did you like the house, Winnie?" Jimmy asked his daughter when we started driving.
"Yeah!" she shouted then giggled hysterically, making me laugh in response.
"Do you think this is too long in the car for them?" I asked Jimmy quietly; as Winnie continued talking in the backseat to one of the dolls she had with her.
Jimmy shook his head slightly, getting onto the highway, "I don't think so. They've made this drive with me and Nancy a lot before. And plus, they sit in a plane with Nancy a few times a month when she goes to California with them. We'll stop along at the pit stops, though. Promise."
I smiled and leaned back in the passenger seat, "Deal," I told him.
I glanced quickly back at the two girls in the backseat, Winnie was singing loudly to the music from the stereo, even though the majority of the words she was yelling were gibberish, it still made me smile. I could see in the mirror facing Franny that she was smiling and looking over at her big sister.
I turned back and faced the road again for a second, before turning to Jimmy, "Thank-you for letting me meet them," I said quietly.
He looked over at me for a couple seconds, then back at the road, "Of course! Thank-you for wanting to meet them, and thank-you for being so good with them. I think Winnie has really taken to you, I can tell. Franny too."
I let out a small laugh and tucked some stray hair behind my ears, "What are you thinking about?" Jimmy asked me.
I looked over to him again, "How unbelievably happy and content I am in this moment, actually. You?"
He reached over and held onto my hand, lacing his fingers with mine, "The same, actually."
I looked over at him, he had messy brown hair, his typical plaid shirt, dark blue jeans and sneakers on, he had the brightest brown eyes I had ever seen in my life. And his smile was the highlight of every day I got to spend with him. He had the biggest heart, and charming personality that would make anyone want to spend time with him. And for some reason he wanted to spend his time with me, and I would never understand why, but I would always be thankful for that.
I wanted to tell him everything I was feeling for him, I wanted to say the three words that I had wanted to say to him since he left after his surprise visit to California.
