A Month And A Half Later

It was my last day of the set of 'Love Sick,' up in British Columbia. I was sharing my last scene filmed with Chris Evans, who was one of the funniest and nicest people I had ever had the pleasure of working with.

When the director, Garry Marshall, yelled cut, everyone clapped for me and started cheering. I smiled and thanked everyone, and gave a quick speech before leaving and heading back to my hotel to pack up, get some sleep and head back home to L.A in the morning.

Once I got back to the hotel I checked my phone and saw a few missed texts and calls. Jimmy texted and called me once. I clicked on his name to dial his number.

With the way my shooting schedule was, and the way Jimmy's schedule was with the Tonight Show, and having his girls, it became quite clear that we wouldn't be able to see each other until after the movie wrapped.

It had been an extremely rough month and a half. We talked daily, but it was really hard with the time differences, I would film until late and not even think about the time differences and call Jimmy, only to find out I had woken him out a sound sleep. Sometimes our conversations only lasted 5 minutes. But we managed it. Just hearing his voice made me happy.

"Hey!" Jimmy said when he picked up after a couple rings.

"Hey," I said back, sitting on the bed. The packing could wait a little bit.

"How was the last day?" he asked.

I shrugged, even though he couldn't see me, "Bittersweet. I love working with everyone, but I'm so fucking happy to be done with it so I can go back to L.A, finish packing and get to New York."

He laughed on the other end, "I can't wait for that either, Maggie. I can't wait to come home to you every night, wake up to you every morning, and I even can't wait until you make this apartment all girly and stuff."

I laughed and shook my head, kicking off my sandals, "I'm not going to make the apartment all girly!"

"Eh, I feel like you're going to," he said with a small laugh.

"Shut up," I smiled.

He sighed deeply, "Maggie, do you understand that in like, 72 hours you're going to be in New York, living in the same apartment as me?"

"I know!" I said with a small giggle, "It's crazy!"

"How long until the press finds out about this one?" he asked me.

I groaned, "Here we were having a nice conversation. I'm not sure, never hopefully. I just want them to leave us alone for a while."

"Me too," he said quietly.

In the almost two months since we had gone public with our relationship, we had hoped that they would have let it die down. But they didn't. Especially since we hadn't been photographed together since the last time I was in New York, people had been having a great time with that. People had said my biggest fear, that this was publicity stunt for one or both of our careers, which didn't make sense.

People said that the age difference had taken its toll on me so we ended the relationship before really starting it. This also didn't add up since we Tweeted to each other all the time, and tagged each other in Instagram posts.

One of my favourite ones though, was that I was trying to replace Nancy as the girl's mother and that Nancy and I hated each other, and Jimmy's family staged an intervention to tell him not to be with me. I hadn't even met his family.

"We'll have to tell them, but not in a statement. Maybe I'll post something nonchalant and hope everyone just overlooks it," I said, turning the T.V one.

"Yeah, that would probably be for the best," he said with a yawn.

"Tired?" I asked him, looking over at the clock; it was 8:57pm where I was. So it was 11:57pm where Jimmy was.

He hummed and I knew that meant he was, "A little bit, it's been a long week."

"At least it's Thursday," I said trying to cheer him up.

He laughed, "That's true. I'm gonna take off I think, Mags. I'm sorry."

I smiled and shook my head, "Don't be sorry, I'll text you in the morning."

"Thank-you," he said quietly.

"Goodnight, JimJam," I whispered.

"Night, Mags," he said. We hung up and I tossed the phone next to me on the bed.

I washed and changed quickly into my pyjamas, I needed to sleep soon, as I had another early flight back to L.A in the morning. My flight was taking off at 8:05am. I plugged in my phone to charge and turned the T.V on and laid under the covers. My phone started ringing, I looked at the caller ID and unplugged the phone and answered it.

"Mama!" I said with a smile, "How's the house?" I asked. Since I was gone for a little while, I asked my parents to stay at the house in L.A, to help pack some of the stuff while I gone. I had gotten a good portion of it done before I left for Vancouver, but there was still a ways to go before I was totally finished.

"Oh, yeah, everything is fine baby, basically everything is done! How was the last day?" she asked me.

"Really nice, I had a real good time on this set. And thank-you for the help, I really appreciate it!" I told her, sitting up against the headboard.

"That's good, baby! You know your Daddy and I are always happy to help you," she told me.

I sighed, "Mama, you think I'm doing the right thing, right?"

"Of course I do. Maggie Rose, you have been doing what you're doing for over half your life now. You have enough money now where you could drop out of everything and be okay. You don't need to work for the money anymore. You need to understand its okay to take a break; Lord knows you've never really had one. This is your life, baby girl; you can do anything you want with it.

"And you moving in with Jimmy? I think that's great. Fast? Yeah a little, but I trust you. I mean, I haven't met the guy yet for some reason. I'm a likeable person, aren't I?" she said, going off topic for a second making me laugh.

"Mama! You're gonna meet him when we go to Virginia next week!" I said laughing.

She was laughing on her end, "I know, I'm just teasing. But," she started, back to her serious tone, "Ever since you were a little girl, you've always wanted that Fairy-tale life. And you have that now. You have the big house, and the ability to do what you want when you want. But that's not the only thing you wanted. You've always wanted a Prince to sweep you off your feet, and you've always been the one to do these things quickly. You're a hopeless romantic, and you need someone that will reciprocate that to you. You deserve that.

"And Heaven knows that Grant didn't do that for you. But you thought that was your Fairy-tale come to life, because he said the right things at the right time. But you know now that it wasn't. I think Jimmy is that guy for you. When we saw you before you went to set earlier this month, I've never seen you so freaking happy. And that makes your Daddy and me really happy. You have every other happiness aspect in your life, you love your job still, right?" she asked.

I smiled, "Of course."

"And you love your friends, and you loved L.A, but you're really going to love New York. But you didn't have that person in your life that you could come home to at night time. You've wanted that since you were a little girl, baby. With Jimmy, I think you're really going to get that. He seems so nice on the T.V, and from everything you've told us," she sniffled on her end.

"Are you crying?" I asked her.

She scoffed, "No!" she said with a small laugh, "Yeah, a little bit. I'm just so proud of you. And I'm so happy for everything you've accomplished, and you deserve everything this life has to offer you. And I knew the right person would come right when you needed them to, and BAM! Here comes Jimmy. I prayed for someone good to come into your life for a while now, and he's finally here."

My eyes filled with tears and I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to contain them, "Mama, you're making me cry now."

She chuckled on the other end, "It's so late, we're both delusional and should get some sleep and stop crying."

"I agree," I told her.

"I'll see you tomorrow, baby, okay?" she said to me, in the calming mother type of voice that always seemed to put me at ease.

"Okay, Mama," I said back to her quietly.

We hung up the phone and I plugged it back into the charger. I got comfortable under the covers, turned the lamp off and fell asleep quickly.

----

I was walking side by side with Marty as he rolled the trolley with our luggage's to the exit of LAX, I was smiling wide because my dad was going to be picking me up, and Marty was taking a car back to his house, as he still had packing to do.

He and his wife had worked out their issues and were staying together. And they were going to be coming to New York with me when I moved, which made me so happy and relieved. I told them I would take care of the expenses for them moving, along with living expenses until they found a house in New York. It was the least I could do for them.

"There he is!" Marty said with a smile, pointing into the crowd of people standing.

I went on my tip toes to try and see him, and there he was, the gentle giant himself. I took my height from my mom, my dad was 6'5" and pushing 250 pounds, he had a bushy light brown beard, messy light brown hair and the kindest, bluest eyes. I looked very similar to him, but I got the body shape from my mom, short, slender but with curves. I definitely had a butt, hips, and boobs.

"Daddy!" I called, people looked at me strangely, but I knew he heard me, his head shot over to my direction, and he broke out into a huge smile. I left Marty's side and ran full speed over to him; I tried maneuvering around people as best as I could, saying a polite sorry if I bumped into them. When I reached him I threw my arms around his neck and he hugged me tight to him, lifting me up in the air.

Tears started pouring down my face into his beard, "I missed you!" I told him.

He sniffled, "I missed you too, baby girl."

He put me back on the ground just as Marty wheeled himself over to us with the bags, "Hey, Len," Marty said with a smile, reaching out for a handshake from my dad.

"Hey, Marty! Thanks for keeping the little one safe," my dad said shaking his hand. I kept my arms wrapped around his free arm, happy to be back near him again. Everything seemed to makes sense when I was close to him.

"My car's waiting, so I'll grab my stuff," Marty said, while taking his one luggage and one carryon bag off of the trolley.

My dad looked down at me with a small smile, "Maggie Rose, you needed three luggages and a few smaller bags for this trip?"

I looked up at him and smiled, "I'm sorry! At least now it doesn't have to be packed!" I said with a giggle.

He leaned down and kissed the top of my head, "That's true!"

"Alright!" Marty said, "I guess I'll see you in a couple weeks in New York!" he said looking at me.

I smiled at him, "Thank-you so much, it means everything to me."

He smiled back at me, "Anything you ever need, all you have to do is ask! I'll see you guys later!" he said before wheeling his luggage away, with his carryon over his shoulder.

"I'm in the parking garage, are you ready to go?" dad asked me.

I nodded; he started pushing the trolley along to go to the parking garage. The walk only took a few minutes; finally we made it to my G-Wagon that my dad drove when he was in town. I helped him load everything into the car before pushing the trolley over to the rest of them, and getting in the car.

The ride back took just over an hour, most of the ride I was telling him about the movie I had just finished and all about the set. He was always really interested in everything that I did, which was nice. I asked him about how the packing went and he told me about finding some old family photo albums and how the two of them went through them, basically crying looking at all of the photos.

We pulled into the driveway, and my mom came out just after we pulled in. She was probably waiting by the door.

As soon as the car was parked I threw the door open and rushed out, going to hug my mom.

"Hey, baby!" she said happily hugging me back tightly.

"Hi, Mama! I missed you!" I told her.

She pulled back from me and smiled, "I missed you too," she said with tears rolling down her face. My mom and I looked nothing alike, aside from the height and body type. She had dark blond hair and bright green eyes. My brother and her looked alike, but he got more of the height. He was 6'3" and just over 200 pounds, but it was mostly muscle.

I sighed and looked at the lawn behind me and saw the SOLD sign out front. It officially went on the market about two weeks previous, and sold within 48 hours.

"Is it empty?" I asked her.

She smiled sadly, "Pretty much. You'll be surprised, I think," she nudged me with her shoulder, "Go on in, baby."

I took a deep breath and went in the open door. I gasped when I looked around, there were boxes everywhere. Some things were labelled to New York and some to the Hamptons house Jimmy had bought.

"I know," my mom said from behind me, I turned to look at her, "We only kept out the essential things we would need before we leave for back East."

I let out a shaky breath and looked around; I had been living there since I was 18. It was pretty surreal to see it empty again. It was finally hitting me that I wasn't going to be there anymore. Not in the neighbourhood, the city, the state...not even the same side of the country.

My stomach dropped. Not that I was second guessing my decision. I knew I made the right decision. But it was still crazy to think of it that way. I was leaving.

"I'm making some homemade burgers for lunch, sound good?" mom asked me gently. She could probably tell I was freaking out, so she didn't want to linger on it for too long.

I nodded with a small smile to her; she smiled back and went over to the kitchen. My dad came in with the bags and smiled at me.

"Don't worry," he told me, "When you get to New York in a couple days, you won't feel as sad," he said then made his way up the stairs to put them in my room, most likely.

I pulled my phone out of my purse, and then dropped my purse by the front door. I unlocked it and dialed Jimmy's number, hoping that he wasn't busy filming yet.

"Hey, Mags!" Jimmy said when he picked up.

"Hey," I said quietly, making my way quietly to the backdoor to go outside.

"You okay?" he asked me quickly.

"Yeah," I said with a nod, "It's just weird seeing everything gone from the house is all."

He sighed, "I'm sorry. But we'll find spots for everything out here. I promise."

I sat on the edge of one of the lawn chairs by the pool and smiled, "I know."

"I can't wait for you to be out here, Maggie," he told me sweetly.

I hummed with a smile on my face, "I can't wait to be home," I said quietly.

We both knew where home was. Each other.
