Chapter 25

"So that's when we went into her room, after following the trail of broken sponge pieces and found Maggie in her bed eating the sponge!" dad said finishing off yet another embarrassing story about me at the dinner table.

I shook my head and chuckled, Jimmy was sitting next to me and was roaring with laughter. His head was thrown back and he could hardly catch his breath. My parents and Adam were cracking up too.

"Y'all are really mean to me, you know that right?" I asked with a small smile as I cut another piece of my chicken and put it in my mouth to chew.

"Jimmy needs to know these things!" Adam said while still laughing.

I rolled my eyes, "Jimmy needs to know I ate sponge as a kid?" I asked after I swallowed my food.

"Yes!" everyone said together.

I sighed and leaned back in my chair at the dinner table, "I hate all of you," I said pointing to everyone at the table. That only made Jimmy and Adam laugh harder.

We sat for hours watching home movies. Movies of Christmases, birthdays, reunions, everything that my parents could think of a reason to film, were filmed. I cringed every time they put in a new tape.

"When you meet my parents, trust me, you'll hear some stories,"Jimmy said putting his hand on my thigh under the table.

I smiled at him, "I better!"

"So, are you two going to head over to Maggie's house during the trip to stay a couple days, or stay here the whole time?" my mom asked, before taking a sip of her red wine.

"Um," I started, "we'll probably head over to my place I think. At least to show him around."

"Well I stocked your kitchen when we came back from California in case you decided to stay there for a few days! I hope you do stay there, you've hardly spent any time there since you bought it!" mom said, basically scolding me.

"I know, Mama," I said with a sigh.

Jimmy cleared his throat, "So Adam, how far do you live from here?" Jimmy asked my brother, trying to change the subject thankfully.

My brother and Jimmy talked amongst themselves for a few minutes before the front door opened.

"Gramma!" the little voice shouted from down the hall.

My face broke into a smile and I stood up along with everyone else at the table.

"Dominic!" mom called back.

Footsteps came thumping down the hall and he stopped at the entrance to the dining room and looked at us. I smiled widely at him, his eyes got bigger when he saw me.

"Auntie Maggie!" he shouted and ran to me. I backed away from my chair and bent down to pick him up in a tight hug.

"Hey, kiddo," I said while tears welled up in my eyes, "I missed you!"

"I missed you too," he said while his little arms wrapped around my neck.

I turned to the side and looked at Jimmy who was smiling at us, "Dominic, this is my friend Jimmy," I told him pointing to Jimmy who smiled and waved.

"Hey, pal!" Jimmy said, reaching out with an open hand for Dominic to high five. Dominic laughed and smacked his hand with his tiny one in a high five.

"Ew!" Dominic said, then laughed again, "Do the voice!"

I looked over at Adam who was smiling, "Do you let him watch the Tonight Show?"
