November 13th, 2016

I was sitting on the couch in the living room in a pair of short shorts and an extremely loose tank top. I couldn't get over how hot I was feeling. I felt so gross and sticky and nothing was helping me. I would eat popsicles and ice cream but it never seemed to settle the warm feeling, I felt like I couldn't cool down.

The AC was on and it was a pretty chill 62 degrees in the apartment, and I still had a fan going and pointed right at me.

The door open and closed and I turned my head to see Jimmy walk in; carrying the Chinese food while he was all bundled up.

"Thank-you!" I smiled, watching him place the food on the dining room table.

He grinned back at me and took off his winter coat only to be in a heavy fleece sweater and scarf underneath it.

"You're welcome!" he said back to me, "Do you want me to make you a plate or are you gonna try and waddle over here?"

"Hey...shut up!" I said with a laugh as he smirked, "And yeah if you could make me a plate that'd be great!"

He laughed and nodded, "Okay!"

I turned my attention back to Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and waited for him to bring me my food, which he did a minute later and sat down next to me on the couch.

I looked over at him and shook my head, "You know...it's not actually that cold in here, you don't need this giant sweater."

He looked over at me wide eyed, "You're kidding, right?"

"No?"

He scoffed, "My food is already cold! That's how cold it is in here! Eskimos think we're crazy for living in this degree of cold! We have to put the food in the fridge to keep it from freezing because of how cold it is!"

I laughed loudly, "Are you being serious, JimJam? I was getting ready to drop it another couple degrees before you came back!"

"You better not!" he threatened with a smile.

I shook my head, "I'll do what I want!" I said sassily, but still joking. I leaned forward to put my food on the coffee table before slowly standing.

"What are you doing?" Jimmy asked.

"Getting a drink, want one?" I asked.

"I can get it!" he insisted.

I shook my head, "No," I said holding my hand out at him, "I need to get up and move or else I'll grow roots and never get up again," I said before making my way to the kitchen, "Did you want something or no?" I asked, turning the corner to get to the kitchen.

"Just a coke is good, baby!" he called back.

I went and opened the fridge, pulling out one of my water bottles from the shelf on the door; I looked for a can of coke and saw the pack on the bottom shelf. I gingerly squatted down and grabbed a can before standing up extremely slowly. Just as I stood straight up...that's when something...something popped and I instantly felt wet.

My breathing became ragged, and my palms went slick with sweat causing me to drop the drinks in my hands.

"Mags?" Jimmy called upon hearing the bangs from the drinks hitting the floor.

I looked down in silence and saw fluid trickling down to the floor from in between my legs.

"Maggie?" Jimmy called again, more urgently. I heard his plate hit the coffee table hastily and then he was running. I looked over at the corner of the room just as he rounded it.

He was looking at me, wide eyed with panic written all over his face.

"This is it," I breathed.

He looked at me, then down to the floor then back up to me.

"Let's get going then!" he said, his face breaking into a smile.

I couldn't help but smile back at him.

--

"How much longer, doc?" I asked the older man that was standing at the end of my bed in my hospital room.

He smiled sympathetically at me, "You're nine centimetres, Maggie. It should be anytime."

I moaned and let my head fall backwards on the pillow, "I've been here for fourteen hours...two of which I've been nine centimeters!"

"I know, Maggie," he said gently, "it'll happen when he's ready. If it's any consolation, everything else is good. Both of your vitals are perfect!"

I squeezed my eyes shut and felt the tears falling down my face, for probably the tenth time since I had been admitted, "Thank-you," I said thickly, moving my head to look back at Dr. James.

"I'll be back shortly, do you want me to send them back in?" he asked.

I laughed and wiped my eyes, "That'd be great, thanks."

He smiled again before leaving my room, leaving me alone for about half a second before Jimmy came scrambling in holding my lemonade.

"What did he say? I'm sorry I wasn't here," he said, handing me my drink.

I shrugged, "its fine," I said, opening the lid, "Same as before, honestly," I said before taking a long drink, polishing off half the container.

Jimmy nodded and took his seat in the chair that was pushed right up to my bed just as my parents and Jimmy's parents walked in.

"No pushing yet?" my mama asked me, taking the open seat on the other side of me.

I shook my head, finishing off the last of the lemonade, "Not yet."

My mom pursed her lips and looked over at my daddy, "I'm proud of you, kiddo," he told me.

I smiled over at him, "Thanks Daddy," I told him, "I'm just excited for this to all be over. I just wanna see him," I said, feeling my emotions come right back to the surface.

"Sorry, can you guys just give us a few minutes?" Jimmy asked to our parents.

"Of course," Gloria said before they left the room swiftly.

"I'm tired," I said to Jimmy quietly.

He smiled a little at me, "I know, baby. But I want you to know...I've never been so proud of you. You've been such a champion through all of this. You've been so tough and strong...and you've made me fall in love with over and over again every single day."

He sniffled and wiped his eyes on the sleeve of his red plaid shirt, "I'm so lucky that you're my partner in all of this, Maggie. I'm so in love with you, and I love our son so much already. And you've made the perfect home for him in there...but we've got something just as good waiting for him out here," he said as I wiped away the fast falling tears from my cheeks.

Jimmy leaned in closer and put a hand on my belly, his mouth was close to the fabric of my dressing gown at my stomach, "Hey, buddy, its daddy," he started, "I know you've had a good time in there, but we're so ready to meet you! Mommy and daddy can't wait for you to get here, buddy."

I breathed out a small laugh and wiped my eyes again, "You're so incredible, Jimmy," I said, smiling when he looked at me, "Thank-you for everything. Thank-you for giving me the best thing I could have ever asked for. Thank-you for loving me...thank-you for dealing with me...I love you."

He smiled and brushed a strand of hair away from my forehead, "I love you more," he whispered just as the door clicked open, revealing Dr. James.

"Let's keep our fingers crossed," he said with a smile as he walked over to me.

I grinned and looked over to Jimmy has Dr. James checked me. Once he pulled the blanket back over my legs I looked over at him, he was smiling widely.

"Well, let's get you over to the delivery room," he said happily.

I looked over at Jimmy and his eyes were just overflowing with tears, but he was smiling so wide at me.

"Ready?" I asked him.

He chuckled and wiped his eyes with the palms of his hands, "Beyond ready."

"God, he looks exactly like you," I whispered, looking over the bassinette in Reid's room our first day home, where our baby boy was sleeping peacefully.

I looked over at Jimmy and saw him watching Reid with such a loving look. I smiled and looked back to our baby.

"He's really ours," Jimmy said quietly.

I smiled and looked over at him, "He's ours," I said, taking his hand in mine.

"He looks exactly like Winnie and Franny did," he told me.

I smiled, "Yeah?" I asked.

He looked over at me with a big grin, "Yeah," he whispered before looking back down at him, "He's perfect. Everything is perfect."

I grinned, "Perfect," I agreed.
