Baby I'm Amazed {Jimmy Fallon Romance}

Chapter 44

January 13th, 2016

Jimmy and I were sitting up on the couch in the living room, clad in our pyjamas at 5:30am. They were announcing the nominations for the Academy Awards. I was waiting to see if they would announce my name, if they would announce Jennifer and Chris and Darren and everyone else from the film that deserved one.

We were nominated so far for Costume Design, Editing, and Original Screenplay. Jennifer was announced as a nominee for Supporting Actress and I went crazy, I was so happy and excited for her. Finally Best Actress came up for the nominees. Brie for Room. Jennifer for Joy. Cate for Carol. Charlotte for 45 Years. Saoirse for Brooklyn. And finally...

"Maggie Atwood for All Who Wander."

Jimmy had his phone camera on me as I started crying and covered my face with my hands.

"Congratulations, baby!" he shouted.

I put my hands down and looked at him, still with tears streaming down my face and heavily sobbing but I managed to smile at him, "I love you," I told him.

"I love you too," he said before putting his phone down and leaning over to hug me.

I continued sobbing into his shoulder as my phone started ringing. I pulled away from him and grabbed it from next to me, seeing that it was home.

"My Miss. Maggie, nominated for an Oscar!" my mom shouted when I picked up and said hello.

I laughed and wiped my nose and eyes, "Hi Mama!"

"Oh baby girl, I'm so proud of you!" she told me happily.

I smiled, "Thank-you for everything, Mama. This was my dream. This is all I ever wanted, thank-you for believing in it," I told her, breaking into a sob again.

I heard her start sniffling on her end, "Oh come on now," she said in a shaky voice, "Save all of the mushy stuff for the speech."

I smiled and shook my head, "Stiff competition this year, Mama, I don't know if I'll make it up there. It's the first time I've been nominated."

"Either way, we're all still proud of you, Adam and Janie stayed here last night so we could watch it together."

I laughed and shook my head; of course they watched altogether, "Tell everyone I said hi."

"Congrats, kiddo!" Adam told me, probably standing next to mom.

"Thank-you!"

"Your Daddy wants to talk to you, just a second," she said, then passed the phone to my dad.

I heard the sniffling before he started talking to me, "Hey, Baby Girl," he said before his voice broke into a sob.

That sent a new wave of sobs to rack my body and I laid my arm on the arm of the couch and laid my head on top of it, "Hi, Daddy."

"I'm so proud of you, Maggie Rose. You have a gift and you worked so hard at it, I am so proud of you. It doesn't even matter if you win or not, because this is validation for everything you've wanted," he told me, with his voice wavering near the end.

The tears continued streaming quickly down my cheeks before falling onto my arm that my head was resting on, "Thank-you for everything, Daddy. Thank-you for trusting me and letting me do this."

"I love you so much," he said before I heard more sobs coming from him and then they quieted.

"Your Daddy is a blubbering mess right now," mom said once she took the phone away from him, "but we'll let you go so you can get some rest, Jimmy has the day off today, right?"

I smiled and sat back up on the couch, wiping at my eyes, I looked at Jimmy who was watching me with a small smile playing on his lips, "Yeah, he's not going in today."

"Well you go and rest," she said with a smile in her voice, I could tell, "and then go and celebrate!"

I laughed and nodded, "I will, Ma. I'll talk to you all in a bit," I told her.

"Alright, Baby, we all love you," she told me.

I smiled, "I love you all too, thank-you for calling me."

"Congratulations again, Baby!" she told me before we hung up.

I set the phone down next to me and looked over at Jimmy, "I'm so proud of you," he told me quietly.

I smiled and shook my head, "I can't believe this is happening," I told him honestly.

He leaned over and kissed me briefly, "You were outstanding in the movie, and you deserve all of this. After the winning at the Globes and the SAG nominations, I knew you would get nominated."

"I can't believe this is all happening," I said looking in his eyes, "this is all I've ever wanted; I just...can't believe it."

"Hey, you're an amazing actress, you're talented and devoted to your job, and that shows in your work. There wasn't a question in anyone's minds that this was going to happen for you. You deserve this so much, Maggie," he told me, rubbing his thumb around in circles on my thigh.

"Thank-you," I told him, just above a whisper.

"You missed it, but, Chris was nominated for Best Actor, Darren for Director and it was nominated for Best Picture!" Jimmy said smiling excitedly.

"That's amazing!" I squealed as he laughed.

My phone started ringing and I looked at the ID and saw it was Allie calling me.

"Hey, Allie," I said with a smile.

"Congratulations!" she yelled.

I laughed, "Thank-you!" I replied back, taking Jimmy's hand in mine.

"Okay, so I'm going to e-mail you right now with the statement about being nominated, it's just a skeleton so add whatever you want, if it's good reply to me and I'll send it out to the media, okay?" she asked quickly.

I nodded, "Yeah of course."

"Okay. Congratulations again, Maggie, I'm so proud of you," she told me kindly.

My eyes welled up again, "Thank-you, for everything you've done for me."

"I love you, kid. Get some rest, I'll talk to you later," she said before we ended the phone call.

I went to my emails to look at hers, which was just the basics she wanted me to touch upon, but giving me free reign to write what I wanted to. I started typing furiously, quickly and read and re-read what I had typed out before sending it over to her.

I am so overwhelmed with happiness and excitement. I am absolutely humbled by this nomination, my very first! Thank-you to the Academy for recognizing this movie, which was such an amazing experience. Having my name in the same category as these other amazingly talented women is unbelievable. All Who Wander was a project of passion, and one of the most mentally gruelling tasks I have ever taken on, but I'm forever grateful for being given the opportunity to play a character as complex as Sophie, to bring a character like her to life has been a dream. I also want to congratulate the crew for being nominated in Editing, Costume, and Original Screenplay, as well as to Darren for Directing, Chris for Lead Actor and Jennifer for Supporting Actress. Thank-you. Thank-you.  

I sent it off and set my phone down again, ignoring all of the texts and notifications that I was getting. It could all wait.

I smiled and looked over at Jimmy, "I need to go back to bed," I said with a laugh.

He smiled and nodded, standing up and offering me his hand which I took, "Leave the phone down here, no distractions, just get some sleep."

I followed him up the stairs and shook my head, still in disbelief of what had happened within the last half an hour. I would love to win, obviously. But even just this recognition was more than anything I could have asked for. This was my dream for as long as I could remember.

Jimmy and I crawled back under the covers of the bed and I turned to face him, he was staring at me and just had the biggest smile on his face.

"What?" I asked with a grin.

He shook his head once, "Nothing...I'm just so happy for you."

I let out an airy laugh, "I'm almost don't want to sleep because I don't want to forget this feeling, like...when I wake up everything will be different, this...what I'm feeling right now, this adrenaline, I don't want to miss a second of it."

He lifted his hand up to tuck a piece of hair behind my ear, "You need some sleep," he said quietly, "it's been a crazy day already and there will be some more craziness that'll go along with it too," he added.

"Like what?" I asked him, slightly confused. Nothing could get crazier than this.

"Just-just the phone calls and messages and people wanting to talk to you. You'll probably have to do interviews soon about it, right?" he said quickly.

I sighed deeply and let me head sink further into the pillow, I could already feel the need to sleep overwhelm my senses, "That's true. Allie is probably talking to GMA or Today or something to set something up," I said then yawned loudly.

"Get some sleep, then we'll grab a late lunch or something, okay?" he said, smoothing my hair down.

I smiled and closed my eyes, "Okay," I said quietly before passing out.
