I had been at home for almost a week since New York. I had spoken to Jimmy every day, but it was more difficult during the week because he was working, and I was in my writing sessions and recording, and Jimmy had his girls during the week. I could tell how happy that made him, which made me happy for him.
We would talk on the phone daily, but they weren't that long of calls since he didn't have lots of spare time to talk. It would be a really quick maybe five minute or so conversation. I knew that I liked talking to him verbally and saying that I missed him, and I really felt that he liked that too.
It was Friday night and Jimmy's ex-wife Nancy had already come and picked the girls up that morning, so Jimmy had texted and said that we would FaceTime when he was done work, so that made me happy. It was just after 3:30pm and I knew that Jimmy had finished filming, since he texted and told me that. But he texted and said there were a few more last minute things that had come up that he needed to take care of, so he would text me when he could.
The hours kept ticking away and I started to feel slightly rejected. He hadn't texted me or called. I mean...it was fine. He wasn't my boyfriend, so I mean, he didn't have to do anything for me. I was just...missing him. Demi was with Wilmer while he was filming his show, so neither of them were in town, and all my other friends wanted to do was go out and club and I just wasn't into that anymore. That didn't hold any type of allure for me anymore. Some of them kept calling trying to get me to say yes, but I declined.
I kept checking my phone throughout the night, nothing. But I didn't want to text him or call him; I didn't want to come off as clingy or crazy when we were just friends after all.
9:45pm rolled around and I decided to get changed into my pyjamas for the night and settle in. I was anxious. Why had he not called or anything? Then my mind began racing, was he okay? Was he in an accident? I pulled out my phone and typed in his name to Google to look to see if there had been an accident or anything like that. But there was nothing, all the news that came up was about the divorce.
I had just slipped into my tank top and shorts when my phone started ringing; I looked over to it and saw his picture come up, one that I had taken during our night at his place. It was him laughing with the WiiIU controller in his hand after I had beaten him during one of the matches. I grabbed it and answered quickly.
"Hey!" I was smiling; all of my earlier thoughts questioning him seemed to drift away.
"Hey, Maggie," he said awkwardly.
"Are you okay?" I asked knitting my eyebrows together.
He sighed, "Yeah. No," he chuckled under his breath, "Oh man. Maggie...I was trying to surprise you...but I didn't know that you needed to put people's name on the list at the front gate to come into see people where you lived."
My stomach started knotting and I felt my eyes pop open, "Wait, what?" I asked.
He chuckled uncomfortable again, "I'm literally at the security box at the entrance. Literally about two minutes from you and they won't let me in because I'm not on the list. I wanted to surprise you and it got all messed up!"
"Let me talk to one of the guards, is Art there?" I asked quickly, I began walking towards my front door.
Jimmy moved the phone from his face, "Are one of you guys named Art? Maggie wants to talk to you."
"Maggie?" Art asked confused, taking Jimmy's phone. I opened my front door and stepped outside into the cool air.
"Hey, um, yeah it's fine to let him in, Art. It's Jimmy Fallon, you knew that right?" I asked walking down the steps to my driveway.
