I was sitting on the couch early the next morning, holding a large glass of ice cold water sipping it out of one of the straws I found in Jimmy's drawers in the kitchen.

It was just after 9:00am, I had woken up with my head on Jimmy's chest and my leg wound around his. His head was resting on the top of mine and his arm was wrapped around my shoulder. I had slid out as quietly as I could to wash my face, and brush my teeth before I went downstairs to watch T.V, so I wouldn't wake him up.

I kept replaying what Nancy had asked me in my mind. If what I was feeling for Jimmy was legit, or if I was using him. I knew I wasn't using him, I knew that obviously. But I was worried that people would think that whenever this story about us hanging out came out. Would people look at me differently? Would I care? I wasn't sure, I wouldn't be sure until it was all happening.

I picked up my phone from next to me on the couch and dialed the most familiar number to me.

"Hey, baby!" my mom said on the other line after picking up the home phone after a couple of rings.

"Hi Mama!" I said with a big smile, relaxing the second I heard her voice.

"How are you? I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever!" she told me.

I laughed and sat back on the couch, "Mama, I called you when I landed in New York yesterday!"

She laughed too, "I know! I just miss ya is all!"

I sighed with a smile, "I miss you guys too. How is everyone?"

"Well," she started, and I could just picture her sitting at the kitchen table, huge mug of coffee in front of her, dark blonde hair thrown up into a ponytail and still probably in her PJs. Like mother like daughter.

"Everyone is really good, but we all miss you, Miss. Maggie! When are you gonna be making a visit? Dominic has been asking for you every day!" she told me, scolding me. I hadn't been to Virginia in almost a year; I saw my brother, his wife and my nephew Dominic at Christmastime when I flew them out to spend Christmas in California along with mom and dad. I hadn't seen mom and dad since they were in New York the day after my taping of the Tonight Show.

"Soon, Mama. I've just been busy with the new album is all," I told her, but I knew she would never take that as a reasonable excuse.

She clicked her tongue, which was never a good sign, "Baby, I know, but you're working too hard. You've been doing this for 13 years, honey and you've hardly taken a break. Family is first on every list, you need to start coming home every so often, or else you're gonna miss this baby growing up. You have this big old house here that I go and clean every month in hopes you'll come home and use it. You need to slow down, take some time off and relax. You don't need to worry about money anymore, baby, you've made enough to support yourself for 100 lifetimes. The money doesn't go with you when you leave this earth, the memories and family that you left will be the only thing that matters."

I wiped my eyes with my other hand, "I know, Mama. I know that. Mama, I was thinking about selling the house in L.A and maybe moving closer, like here to New York. It's a lot closer to Virginia so I'll be able to come home more and see everyone more often."

"Well, I think that is a very good idea! But," she paused for a beat before continuing, "Would that have to do with a certain someone you've been hanging around with? Name rhymes with Rimmy Gallon?"
